There has been a lot of controversy on the subject of Columbus Day. This argument have been discussed since 500 years after Columbus set his foot on American soil. Many people have thought that it isn't right for Columbus Day to be a thing.
The Native Americans were here first is a side of the argument. All of the people think that Columbus Day should be called Indigenous People day instead. They believe that people are dumb for thinking that Columbus discovered our land. The other people in the argument think that the Indians shouldn't be praised for being on American Soil because they didn't bring it up to the other people on the other side of the world. They were going to keep it to themselves.
Everyone on the Native Americans side says that it isn't their fault for not bringing to the other people in the world because they thought they were the only people that existed. They had no knowledge of anybody being on the Earth or that there was other landmasses on the Earth. There is no way they could have known that they lived in a great land mass that would later become The United States.
1. Do you think the name should be changed?
No, I do not. There is no way they could've known that other people were looking for land. They didn't even speak english, so they couldn't keep up with the Americans anyways.
2. Whose side do you take?
I take the side of the people that want the name to stay Columbus Day. It is logical that way to me.

I thinkt the name should not be changed. We came to the Americas and actually killed off a good amount of them. We must've missed a lot, but they had diseases and other toxic stuff. They were also very educated in the land but that's insignificant compared to what they brought. I take the side of the people who don't want it changed.
I think it wouldn't matter which name the take, replace it or keep Columbus day the same. I think that the background information can let you decide what your opinions are on it and how you take it. I also think that since lots of people are on both sides, it should just stay the same. Even though it might not be the day you want it to be called, you can still celebrate your belief.
I do not think the name should be changed. It has been columbus day since well awhile now. Columbus day is another day that lets kids learn about how the usa became. I am for columbus day.
Honestly, it doesn't really matter. No one really celebrates Columbus Day anyway, but I think the name should be changed. Columbus invaded the Native Americans' land and took it over. Native Americans have always been treated badly, and changing the name would recognize the fact that Americans haven't been the greatest to them. I take the side of the people saying the name should be changed to Indigenous Peoples Day.
I think that people need to stop being so sensitive and live with reality. Everyone gets so offended these days and it honestly ruins everything for everyone else. I take the side of people not acting like children and start acting like adults.
That statement is definitely true. Now a days it feels like everyone has to have a problem with something. It's all just to cause problems I feel like. People make up issues that shouldn't even come up just so they have just something to argue about.
I do no think that the name should be changed, however I do think that we need to respect and appreaciate both sides, because yes the Native Americans were here first, but Columbus is the one that discovered North America for the Europeans who would go on to colonize it and one of these colonies would go on to become the United States.
I agree with the people that want it to remain as Colombus day because that is the way it has always been sort of like in my opinion you cant change the name of Christmas because athiest don't like Christmas being associated with Jesues.
I don't think the name should be changed but I think we should appricate both Native Americans and Columbus on that day, because both of the discovered the US. I'm not on a side because I think that both of these could be the right name for that day.
I agree with you. We shouldn't under appreciate either group. They were both here at that time. They both gave us great things that we now have today. It just doesn't make sense to change the name or to dislike the opposing group.
