Should college be free?

This topic has long been debated. Personally I think that it should be free but after more reasearch it appears it just isnt gonna happen. First off where would the money come? the goverment and the state would have to cover it. The goverment is already 27 trillion dollars in debt, they dont need anymore debt. It might not even be effective enough to pay for itself. Besides half the states already offer some programs that provide tuition-free college.

On the other side free college is a great idea. It could help the economy when everyone is more educated. Free college would also help the poorer people get out of poverty and lower the gap. Joe Biden plans to make college free for people whos parents make less than $125,000 a year. Third college creates futures for kids and would make our country way better overall.

Personally I think college should be free because then it would lower the class gap and make the world a better place overall. Then theres no excuse not to go to college and get a higher education. We're going to need more doctors and lawyers in the future and giving free college would help. Not to mention we really need to change our economy and this could really help.

Do you agree with Joe Biden and giving free college to less than $125,000?

  • Good topic choice Noah. I think your summary could have been more orderly in explaining both points of view. It seems a bit rushed. Also be sure to reply back more frequently.

  • I definitely think that colleges should be free just so the people that don have as much money can have a chance to have a great life and not have to be in debt for a long time. I also think that it would help the economy because there would be more jobs filled up and people be successful in life.

  • I do not think that the government should attempt to make college free. The way in which Joe Biden wishes to attempt this is by raising the taxes of all Americans. Personally, I think this is quite unfair and that students and their families should have to pay for their own college education. I don't think that U.S. citizens should have to pay for unknown teenagers to attend college.

  • I don't think that college should be "Free" because people will still be paying for it through taxes, and if I make the choice not to go to college or to go to a trade school instead, then why should I have to pay for everyone else to go to college and get degrees that they may not ever use? It does not make any sense for the whole nation to need to pay for something that really isn't needed in today's world, and could just as easily be paid for if a person chose a realistic major and worked hard to get scholarships.

  • Nothing is really free.  Someone is going to have to pay for it.  And if the government does then we will have to pay the government more.  I think if you want to go then you should pay for it, not everyone with taxes.  If you pay then you might pay better attention and finish it.  If it is free then you might not care as much.

  • I do think college should be free because many students are stuck having to pay college loans for most of their life, and it seems like society expects you to pay upfront just to live a decent life. I do agree with Joe Biden because so many people can't afford college and become poor for the rest of their lives. I definently think this will help the economy because the more people we have in college, the more smarter our society is.

  • I'd love it if college were free. It'd give everyone an equal start in the world and would give education in order to move our world forward. It wouldn't be great for the economy, but then again, very few things are. I believe that it'd be worthwhile, but then again, we don't have a whole lot going for us at the moment.

  • It would definitely be nice if college could be free, but it can't. The government would not have enough money to pay all of the professors and other staff members for everyone to go to college for free. I think that the amount you have to pay to go to college is a bit absurd, but if college was free, taxes would be so high that you would basically be paying for college whether you plan on going or not.

  • I think it would be nice if college was free but if that happened then taxes would probably go up. I think that college is expensive but it is worth the experience and education you get from it. However I do think that the price could be dropped a little.

  • I think that it could go both ways, we are already in heavy debt and we dont need anymore. On the other hand, the amount of poor people in the US would decrease by a large amount. I agree, but the amount should be higher. It would geatly change the economy.
