College graduates earn 80% more than non-college graduates. However, only 51% of people in America see college as important. In 2009, the Obama administration wanted to increase the amount of 25-34 year olds with college degrees or certificates to 60% by 2020. At the rate we are going, it would take until 2056 to reach this goal. The United States’ economy is dependent on the educational success of Americans. Without sufficient workers to complete the work needed to keep America running, we would ultimately fall to poverty.
One reason college has been pushed off for students is because of cost, which has increased by 25% just over this decade. The increased costs has put student debt in America at its peak. This alone is causing the importance of college in kids’ minds to drop significantly. However, having a college education increases the pay you make by a ton compared to someone who doesn’t graduate from college. So while you may spend a few years paying off student loans, you will be making more money in the long run.
Another reason students’ have seemed to lose interest in college is because of millionaires like Mark Zuckerberg or Bill Gates who are both college dropouts. These few exceptions cause kids to believe that they can make it just fine without a college education. While yes, it is true that you can make a good living without a college degree, you would be able to live more comfortably with one.
Without college education, our country will lack skilled workers and our economy will be hurt. While we can live without a college degree, it is important to our society. College isn’t a necessity for individuals, but our economy will continue to grow and flourish with college degrees.
Do you think college should be a priority?
Do you plan on attending college? Why or why not?

No college shouldn't be required because some people aren't made for college. Yes, I plan on attending college. I don't even think about not going to college. I've just always been told I'll get a college degree. But, some people are meant to go to work on the family farm or other things and college isn't right for them.
I don't think that college should be required, my dad has been doing good and he never went an hour in college, and plus there are other schools like trade school and the national guard as well. I do plan on going to college and I don't know where yet but for agronomy.
I do not think that college should be a requirement because many people don't need the schooling that college does. Many people are going through the trade schools which are a lot more beneficial for some high school graduates. I have fully decided if i'm going to go through college or trade schools.
I think if it was a prority I think it should be free beucase if they make it a proity. I mabey wanna go to college if i save up from working and mabey go to college for something that i will actully like and actully wanna go to college. I dont reallly think it should be a prority beucsae some people might wanna work for the rest of there lives.
I don't think that colleges should be a priority. Many people go to trade schools or get internships at jobs and get paid to be trained in a job they want to do. It's riskier to do a internship because if you do the internship you have to enjoy that job or else you would have to go to school to be qualified for other jobs.
I do not think it should be a priority because many people have other dreams and want to pursue other things. I agree with you that it might hurt the economy with those kind of jobs, but I think they should be able to pick what they want to do and if they want to do something else, let them, it is their fault if they fail for not picking college.
I don't think college is a priority to everyone but it is very important because without it, like you said, we would lack skilled workers and hurt the economy. I do plan on attending college because most of the jobs im interested in require a college degree.
