There is a huge debate on whether or not phones should be banned while being at school or not. There are many reasons for banning cell phones and many against the usage of them in a school environment. This year our own school has gone out of their way to create a new system to directly limit our phone usage throughout the day. As you’re walking into your class you are expected to put it up in a shoe holder, but is this really the best thing to do?
Although teachers have their very own reasons for hating phones in the school environment and have good reasons, many students argue that it’s not teaching us self control or responsibility. During classes last year, when we were still allowed to keep hold onto our phones, there were many people misusing the privilege and ignoring teachers by spending their class time on a phone. As this is a problem, teachers could’ve easily enforced the rules and even taken away phones right then if the student still refused to listen. Not to mention cell phones at school also create a sense of safety for both students and parents as they can reach each other at almost all times during the school day.
In my opinion, I believe it is not teaching us anything by taking our phones away as soon as we get into any classroom. This will not help any students practice their self control or give them a chance to take responsibility for their own learning. There are also cases in a class where you could have taken out your phone when done with your work, but now with the new rules doing that is strictly prohibited and you aren’t allowed to grab it until the bell. It is also found that with phones taken away, students who used to ignore the teacher and use their phone, now disrupt other students’ learning throughout the class. This truly isn't fair to students who trying to listen and get the most out of a teacher's lesson that is now being disrupted by a student who doesn't care.
Do you think cell phones should be banned at school?
How do you feel about the new phone policy at school this year?

Great job Dani!
Schools definitely should not ban cell phones. I don't think it would have any better effect beyond what we have already achieved by taking phones at the beginning of most classes. While the new phone policy has definitely helped some people focus on class, I don't think it was as effective as planned.
I don't think that schools should ban cell phones. It's something that many people need for many different reason. I also don't think that the new phone policy is good either. In the real world, there aren't going to be puches or boxes for you to put you phone in. Holding yourself accountable and being able to restrict yourself from using your phone too much is something that we need to learn to do.
I don't think that school should ban cell phones because it isn't teaching students anything. I also feel that cell phones aren't theirs to take in the first place. I do think that the policy this year is okay. It doesn't bother me much other than the people who like you said distract others.
I believe that you should be able to have your phone in school. When you have your phone in class it builds trust between you and your teacher because you are not on it when she or he is teaching his or her lesson. Therefore you should be able to have your phone on you while in class.
I don't think that schools should ban phones because if they have them it will teach them when they can and can not use them. And banning them would not only make students mad that they can't have their phone but it won't teach them anything.
I don't think cell phones should be banned at school because students use it in their everyday life, and they should learn when to use and when to not use them. I don't like the new cell phone policy rule at school this year because it's not teaching the kids anything or helping them stay focused.
I believe that cell phones shouldn't be banned from schools. By allowing cell phones in class, students are able to learn responsibility by learning and not being on their phones when they are meant to learn. Students can also have contact with their families in case of emergencies.
I believe they shouldn't be banned, 90 percent of the time in a class I use my phone for either a calculator or searching up. If i am on my phone during class I won't know what is going on, and that is my punishment. I don't like the new phone policy, I believe they did it this year instead of last year because of COVID-19
I agree, people also charge their phones nightly and most students don't charge their computer, so being able to use your phone for something simple like a calculator also benefits the student.
