Shooting on Live TV

On August 26, in Moneta, Virginia, the worst case scenario happened to a news reporter and her cameraman. While interviewing a local for their local news story, shots were fired toward the news cast. What was worst was that this was on live TV. The video catches gunshots, the camera hits the ground, a glimpse of a man with a gun, and the news reporter start running. Then the feed is cut back to the main news anchor with a shocked look. Later that day they reported that Alison Parker and Adam Ward had been killed, and the interviewee was put in the hospital in critical condition. The police had found out that the shooter was a former worker at the news station. When he was on the run he had turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.

Why do you think he would do this on live TV?

What would you do if you were a bystander?

  • Good job but be sure to reply more frequently.

  • I think he would do this on live TV to get back at the news station that he used to work for. I was a bystander I would search for cover immediately so that I didn't get shot by the man and call 911.

  • I think he did it to 'get back' at the new station for firing him. If I were a bystander I probably would have hid, because the gun is more powerful than my hands/ body its self. After he left i would have ran over to them and helped but i would have called 911 first.

  • I think he did it because that reporter took his job. He did it on live tv because he wanted the attention. I would try to stop him if I were a bystander. .

  • He was most likely going to end his life anyway, and maybe decided that he would kill others before he took his own life.

  • I think he did it on live TV because he had gotten fired early. This was his way of getting back at the news sttion for firing him. I also think that he must have had some mental condition.

  • I think he would do this on live television because something bad might have happened to him while he was working there and he wanted revenge. He probably also wasn't thinking straight either. I think that shooting people on live TV is a pretty extreme measure. If I was a bystander I'd probably be horrified. However, it's kind of hard to imagine yourself in those kinds of situations. You can't really predict how you're going to act. On one side I think I might run away so I wouldn't get shot, and call for help, but on the other side, I try to see myself being heroic and running to help the victims. But I know that probably wouldn't have happened. How would you react if you were a bystander?

  • Maybe he had been fired from there, or gotten harassed while working there, and wanted to get back at them. I don't know. I can't imagine what could be running through his head for him to have done that.

  • I think he did it on live tv becuase he wanted to have millions see them die and make them pay for his job loss/ money losss and whatever else he happened he lost when he got fired so he was taking it out on them. I would of ran lol because you never know he might kill you.

    • Do you think he was in his right mind when he was doing this?
