Shaun White's Retirement

Shaun White was born September 3rd, 1986. He was born and raised in San Diego, California. Shaun is a retired professional snowboarder and skateboarder. He is largely regarded as the greatest snowboarder in history and it is believed he revolutionized the sport as a whole.

During his time as a professional, he was a five time Olympian and a three time Olympic champion. His first Olympic victory came in the 2006 Turin Olympics at the young age of just 19 years old. His long flowing red hair earned him the nickname “The Flying Tomato”. He then returned to the olympic stage at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, where he easily defeated the rest of the field and earned a second gold medal. He came up short at the Sochi Olympics in 2014, but made a tremendous comeback to win gold in the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics. Along with his Olympic medals he also earned a record setting 18 medals at the Winter X-Games.

He made the decision that the 2022 Beijing Olympics would be his last Olympics and that he would retire from snowboarding at the professional level after. In his last Olympics he came just 2.25 points shy of a bronze medal and finished in fourth. Shaun was quoted saying this Olympics was a “Bonus Round”. He stated that he was satisfied with his professional career.

  • I like your topic choice but your summary could be longer and you could have asked at least one more questions.

  • I do think Shaun White is the greatest snowboarder of all time. I remember watching him ever since I was young. I do think he has had the greatest snowboarder career ever. He is the all time great when it comes to snowboarding.

    • I agree that he was one of the best snowboarders to ever do it. I feel that he was a huge part in many other peoples lives, just like you and I.

  • I think that he is the greatest for sure. Nobody else can do what he did and he is just such a step ahead of everybody else. Nobody else could win as many olympic medals and he is truly just one of a kind and forsure is gonna be a legend for the rest of time.

  • As far as i've heard, Shaun is one of the best if not the best snowboarders of all time. Being on the olympics that many times is crazy and not a lot of athletes can do it and it takes a lot of work.

    • I agree that making the Olympics that many times in a row is very impressive, and the fact that he could make it to the finals in all of those Olympics.

  • I think it's definitely fair to call Shaun White the Greatest of All Time. You don't often see an athlete competing in the Olympics 5 times and it's crazy that he managed to do that and qualify for them on 5 occasions. I don't think anyone is going to show up his career for a long time.

  • I think Shaun was one of the greatest snowboarders of his time. Competeing in the Olympics since '06 is a huge feat, and his retirement is well deserved. But much like time, there will always be someone better that will come along and beat his records.

    • I agree with you that some one new will eventually come up and surpase Shaun White as the greatest snowboarder of all time.
