In early october a austrailian surfuer got attacked by a shark. Authorities sent drones and coast guard to try and find the surfer.  After a few days they did find the surf board but did not find the body. This man was the seventh person to get attacked by a shark in Austrailia. The last time the country faced that many attacks was 86 years ago (1934). The average death per year by shark has been averaging 1 every year for 50 years. Experts belive there is many causes for this such as, bad luck, but most belive its because of climate change. Austrailia has been known for having extreme heat waves, by bush fires, and droughts. All these problems have been causing the oceans to have more acidification to them and also so a rise of tempurture. With these problems, these are causing coral reefs to die as well. Since this is happening on the coast, sea life are being forced to the waters they live in and find more of a suitable climate to live in. When the waters are warming up the fish stay there all year round and never move to a diffrent coast becuase the winters are getting so warm, so that way sharks find the fish easier and are on the coast next to mainland. Sharks tend to hang around warmer waters so thats where the fish will be and thats where people will be because they are right next to shore. But all in all this is just a very well reaserched and data backed up prediction.

Is Australia really seeing more shark attacks? - BBC News

I think these shark attacks are very bad and I do belive these attacks could possibly be cause by climate change. Climate change has been proved in many ways and this is one of them, so I think everbody needs to stop pollution in order to save eachothers lives.

Do you beilve climate change has an effect on why these shark attacks are happening?

Do you think there is any way to try and prevent these attacks from happening?

  • Good topic choice and good overall. Be sure to make your summary inlcude more of your thoughts and opinons next time. Also be sure to use a spell check to eliminate errors.

  • I do believe that climate change might be a factor into the abnormally high number of shark attacks this year, but I do not think it's the primary reason. Like you said, a lot of things go into these attacks, and I think it's just primarily bad luck that people are getting attacked. I think that people should educate themselves before they go surfing or swimming in the ocean. You can never completely prevent a shark attack, but you should know the potential dangers when you go out into the water. Knowing the dangers could keep people more allert, or even keep some people from going out into the water entirely.

  • I don't believe climate change affects shark attacks copletely but I think it has to do with the rising numbers this year. But if it's warm and fish go to warmer parts of the water and thats where sharks need to go humans might be there too. There honestly might not be a way to stop shark attacks. They might just have to happen because I don't know how we can stop a shark.

  • I definitely think that climate change is the reason for the shark attacks maybe not all but, some because like the story said sharks stay in warmer bodies of water because they know that's where the fish will be so, if the fish are there then the sharks are going to be there and if humans are around then sharks might get confused on whats the fish and what's the human. I don't think there is any way to stop the shark attack just because it might be based on the weather and, what are you going to do about the weather nothing you can't do anything about it.

  • I do belive the attacks could be caused by climate change because the sharks could sense that something is wrong because the water temperatures are rising. They could try stopping these attacks by designating more areas for people to swim in.

  • I wouldn't say that climate change is the main cause for these shark attacks. If there are more people in the water the is a higher chance that an attack will happen. Since the average has been one attack a year this could just been higher number year which wouldn't affect the average attack rates much.

  • I do not see how climate change and shark attacks have anything to do with each other. I guess it just seems like it because there is an increase in both categories. But, I think it is just a coincidince that they are both rising. I do not see, how we could stop attacks like this happening, other than restricting people so far out in the bodies of waters.

  • I am a very big believer in climate change so I believe when people start to speculate that climate chage plays a factor in these sharks attacks. Yet I don't believe that it plays that big of a factor. I feel like it is more on the coincidential side than on the cause effect side.

  • It might in some way but i dont think that climate change is the cause for every single attack that has happed, the guy was on a surfboard and most shark attacks happen to surfers. They could redesign surfboards to have mirrors on the bottom or something to deture the sharks.

  • there is a possibility that climate change has a part in the increase of shark attacks each year, because people tend to surf in the shallower waters and shallower water is easier to warm up, which can cause more and more fish to move into those types of areas, drawing sharks closer to those areas too. I also think our economy can work harder to help decrease the increase of climate change.
