In 2014 Russian-backed rebels staged an armed uprissing after Western nation supports came to power in Ukraine. Alexander Zakharchenko was put in place as the leader of the rebel group and as some rebel leaders say he was hand picked by Russia for this position. Flash forward to earlier today, while in a cafe in Donestk city Zakharchenko was killed by an explosion that also injured another seperatist leader. This is just the latest of many killings inside of the speratist group. Moscow blaims the event on pro-western, however the group is known to have had many leaders and members assasinated by other members in the past. Ukraine's secret service had denied any involvment in this attack and has instead blamed it on terrorists and their Russian sponsors.
Who do you think is responsible for this attack?
I think that it was another speratist that for whatever reason didn't want Zakharchenko in power, and the group has a history of killing fellow members and leaders.
What do you think will happen to the rebels without their leader?
I think that the group will be in chaos for a little while maybe a few months, but after a little while things inside of the group will revert to more or less normal and the group will carry on as usual.

I think this story and your questions was tough for students to comment on as your summary just doesn't explain this whole situation in depth. Students just don't know the history of this conflict so therefore don't know how to answer.
I think someone who didn't want Zakharchenko in power is responsibile for the attack. They didn't want him in poweer so they showed him. I agree with you that the rebels will have some chos and it will be crazy for a bit and then it will cool down.
I agree with you that somone didn't want Zakharchenko in power and for that reason caused the attack, I also find it possible that somone was trying to hurt more than just Zakharchenko because several people were injured, not just Zakharchenko.
