Many semi's in Iowa were stranded for over almost two days due to the horrible snow storm hitting the Midwest. On Saturday, February 23, Jason Fincher and his wife were planning on driving to St. Paul, Minnesota to run a delivery up there. Come Monday, and they are still stranded in the parking lot of Prarie Meadows Casino and Hotel in Altoona. FIncher said "I love Iowa, but this sucks", as everyday he lingers, it costs him approximately $250 in income. Iowa officials had many interstates between Ames and the border of Minnesota closed due to the snow drifting and limited visibillity. All of them were opened up again by 5p.m. Monday. The 24 hour closing changed the plans of many of the truckers. The longer they sit there, the more they spend, not earn. Most semi drivers are scheduled out at least one week ahead of time so that they don't collide with other companies at factories and manufacturers. In Clear Lake, at the Kwik Star truck stop, there was over 150 semi's parked Monday afternoon. Many other semi's were stranded all around Iowa at gas stations, truck stops, and stores. Due to the roads being so bad, many places didn't get their daily delivery trucks causing them to run out of stuff.
1. Do you think it was a good idea to close the roads or should they of let the truckers thrrough so they could do their job. Why?
I think it was a good idea to close them, for the safety of many people
2. Why do you think the truckers drove through the Midwest instead of going a different route, since they should of know about the weather they were getting themselves into.
I think they drove through because it was the quickest route

Good summary Marley but you didn't reply to any student comments which is worth 20 points. Also be sure to capitalize key words in your title.
I agree with you that it was definitely a good idea to close the roads because the weather was terrible for driving, and with semi's on the road it made it much more dangerous for other vehicles. I'm guessing that they either thought that they could make it to their destination before the storm, or they thought it was the quickest route.
I don't think it was a good idea to close the roads because as a truck driver you have a deadline and you should be early or be on time. He probably drove through Iowa because it was the quickest route.
1. I think it was smart to close the roads. People should not be driving in those kinds of conditions, especially not semis.
2. I think they drove that route because it was the faster way to get where they were going. Maybe they didn't know about the weather, thought they could beat the storm, didn't think it was going to be as bad as it was, or they didn't think the roads would get closed.
I dont think it was a good idea because then businesses and companys arent going to be getting what they ordered for longer than what they had wanted, they really should let the roads be open and let people drive on them let people make there own decisions if they want to go on icy roads
Probelly its a faster rout to where there going and maby a less busy road or it leads to there destination faster and better than other roads
I think that it was important for them to close the roads down because it would cost a lot more if you were to get into an accident because of the roads than having to sit somewhere and lose money sitting their. I couldn't imagine driving a semi with a lot of expensive cargo and then getting into an accident and having to pay for all the ruined goods. The truckers probably thought that they were going to beat the weather but then regreted it whent they got stuck in the weather.
I think it is good that they closed the roads. What if they wouldn't have and there would have been many accidents? Everybody would have blamed the people who didn't closed it. I agree with you, and I think they didn't expect that it will be that bad.
I mean, this sucks for truck drivers and I understand why they would be upset, but I am glad that the roads were closed for the sake of the public's safety. I wouldn't want to be on the road alone in that weather let alone when I'm sharing the road with massive semi's that could crush me with one slippery ice patch.
I think it was better to close the road. I think many many people would have gotten injured or even killed. Well I think that most truckers have a schedule and a route that they have to take that is set up by their boss and that's probably why they took that route.
I think that they did the right thing by closing the roads because even though trucker's are probably mad about it they were looking out for the safety of everyone. I think that they drove through the Midwest because it was either the quickest route or thats the route that they were told to take, plus after getting into the storm they weren't able to get out.
