Secret Mayan Tunnel Found!

Earlier this month, a secret Mayan tunnel was found that was thought to lead "beneath the ancient Maya pyramid". Now, archaeologists plan to excavate the tunnel to reach a cenote, or a water filled sinkhole. Over the sinkhole, there is a pyramid called El Castillo. Years ago, people determined that there was a hidden sinkhole under the pyramid, and now they have finally found it.

To find out more about this fascinating archeological discovery, go here.

How do you think they found out about the hidden cenote/sinkhole?

I think that they just used some sort of technology and found a hole or something under the pyramid and have just been exploring it since.

If you found this hidden tunnel and cenote, what would you do?

I would probably just tell someone that actually knows something about these kind of things about it and let them just handle it.

  • Interesting story but your summary is quite brief which does not get people to comment. Put more effort into your summary next time.

  • If they determined the sinkhole years ago, then people probably looked for it to be the one's who discover this phenomenal Mayan tunnel. I guess that esspecially the people in the towns near this location tried to  dig holes to find the tunnel.

If the tunnel was in a good conditiion, I would have probably called friends or family and disciovered it first but since this tunnel is really ancient, I would call the police or some organization that keeps track of things like that.

    • Would you really explore the tunnel at all? I probably would because you never know, you might find something really cool or interesting or something worth a lot in this place. I would probably explore a little bit before I told anyone.
