Seclusion Rooms Closing at Schools

What is a seclusion room?Alex Campbell a thirteen yaer old autism and disabilities advocate wants to shut them down. Why does he feel like he should fight to close them? This boy tells his story of what his school does to children who have disabilities that go to this room. A seclusion room is a room they lock children with disabilities in, in some schools it's for the smallest and sillyest reasons, because they, the staff, veiw and deem this child as doing something that is a danger to the class and enviroment for learning. So they remove them and lock them in by themselves and in some schools, such as alex's, threaten kids that if they tell their parents they'll spend more time in their, or strap kids in their wheelchairs if they have them. This is scareing these children.

  • I don't think the use of these room is okay at all. I believe they should be banned because it's shouldn't be used for children with dissablities. More then likely these students can't help there actions and should be punished and locked it a room. It probably doing more damaage cause them trauma.

  • These rooms are absurd, what they are doing to these kids with disabilities is not right. They are even going as far to say they are dangerous to other people. I believe this unexcusable and they should be banned.

  • 1.) I don't think this is okay at all. They wouldn't do this to a kid without disabilities who is doing much worse actions. Also, this is not at all going to be good for the kid, it could traumatize them. 2.) I think it shouldn't be aloud at all, period.

  • What the-?! Uhhh... Okay then?! How are these things legal?!  Strapping kids down to wheelchairs?! Isn't that child abuse?! I don't understand how this is even up for debate, these things should be shut down.

  • No its not ok to treat mentally disabled kids like animals if there doing things that might harm other student just tell there parents or kick them out of the school

I dont think its right a human being should never be put in a wheelchair and locked in a room all school day

  • I think if its the way Alex describes it it shouldnt be a thing because it doesnt sound all the great. I dont think its right and a tactic like that shouldnt be used agaisnt disabed kids that would probably bevery scared if the rooms.

  • I think these rooms can and do help out in most cases but if this is happening in them or parents or anyone hear anything about this I think its terrible because this should not be happening to a kid thats just trying to learn.

  • I think these rooms are okay if they are used right. If the accusations of threating the kids if they tell their parents and strapping the down is true then, yes that's not okay. But I could see why they would create a room like this to help calm the child down without disrupting the class.

  • I think that some rooms are okay if they just go in there for a time out or something like that, but I dont think that they should have like black walls and no windows and stuff like that. I think that they should be more gentle and nicer to them especially if they have a disability.
