Scotland's Independence From England

This last week, the people in Scotland had a very important vote to take. The vote was to decide if they were going to become an independent country or stay with England. The vote went to staying with England and the union. Scotland has been part of England for 307 years. The vote went  55% against it and 45% for it. Before the vote, the Prime Minister of England asked some of the political leaders of the people for becoming and independent nation, what they would want in exchange to stay with England. It helped people in Scotland that wanted to stay part of England. Afterwards, there was a few problems as people started to clash against those with different ideals.

If you were in Scotland, would you vote to stay with England, or vote to become independent? Why?

  • Good summary but be sure to reply a bit more frequently.

  • I would vote to stay with England. I would vote this way because if we have been with them for so long and there was no serious reason to secede, then I would vote no, don't break away

  • At this point I would stay with England because you have been with them for as long as you have existed and they have helped you out so I don't see why you would want to leave them ever.
  • If I were them, I would pick to be independent. So they could make their own choices for themselves. But I would also want to stay with England because then they would get economical help and military help and such.

  • vote to be independent, if they want to be a country then let them be i would vote for it because the people in Scotland are so much different than the people in England.

  • I would vote to stay with England. They have been with England for a long time and it would only cause troubles if they separated.

  • Personally Im in a catch 22 here. If I'm a citizen there breaking away from England gives the country more potential and free reign. However, if I stay apart of England I know I am under a great government and a great milltary and I am not sure that is something I would be quick to get rid of. So either way it there will be many pros and cons to this.
    • I agree, because there are advantages and disadvantages. If you come your own country, then you have new responsibilities that they may not have had for many years, like making an army and defenses, and appointing new positions within the country. So there is some freedom within becoming your own country, and disadvantages coming from another country.
