if you have been active on twitter, you most likely have seen that scotland is the first country in the world to make menstrual products free. I've never understood why people spend so much money monthly on these important products when women have absolutely no control over their natural body functions. period poverty is a huge issue, and seeing even one country take action on this is huge. a survey from onlinenursing.duq.edu showed 64% of women could not afford these in the past year, it's around 150$-300$ depending on the person. Scotland's poverty rate is 16% while America's is 10.5%, that still isn't a great percentage. consider the idea that women have periods until they reach menopause, that is years and years of money for our reproductive cycle. if you have ever used a public women's restroom, you'd see these boxes on the wall that are almost like a vending machine but for tampons. For you to be able to use this you'd need a quarter, honestly if you've ever lived in a low income family you would understand why women wouldnt be able to just use their money even for this. planned parenthood is one of the many amazing organizations that have multiple free services, but also do you really think someone who would have to choose food over health products would even afford to reach a planned parenthood?
should menstrual products be free?
yes, people who have periods also have no control over there reproductive systems.
did scotland make a good choice?
yes absolutely, they have a higher poverty rate.

Great topic choice and one I have never thought about before, which I really appreciate. Be sure to capitialize words that should be in your summary and title. The big issue is that you didn't reply to any student comments which is worth 30 points.
I do see where you are coing from saying menstrual products should be free because women have no control over their period and reproductive system, but I don;t know if they should nesessarily be free. It does cost money to make and produce these products so it only seems right to pay for them, but maybe the prices should be reduced.
I agree I think they should be free becuase like you said women have no control over that situation. And scotland may have started a big movement on making these free and I could see other countries following this and start to make these productions free.
I do think they shouldn't be entirely free, but the cost shoud be reduced. Their products are overly exspensive and not everyone can afford them. I do agree with the fact that women have no control over their reproductive systems and the way they function. I do think that Scotland did make a good choice, because that could really help them, however, they could come into some conflict with the producers who are making these products.
I don't know if menstrual products should necessarily be free because it does cost money to produce these medications. However, I do think that the cost of these products should be reduced. I agree that women have no control over the way in which their reproductive systems function. So, I think that Scotland made a good choice, however, I think they may see conflict with making the products free.
I think Scotland has done a great thing beacuse this is something that women cant control and why make us pay for sothing that we cant help? It make complete sense that places should be required to have free menstrual products in public restrooms just like they have to have free toilet paper.
I think it'd be amazing if these products were free. It isn't something we can control, nor ask for, so why charge us so much? However, making them free would really effect the economy in a negative way. Even just lowering prices would just be so much more beneficial though. It'd be great if they could just be in public restrooms, free of charge. I don't think the U.S. is to the point where we'll be doing it any time soon, but from the sounds of it, Scotland needed it a lot more then we do because of their poverty rates. Because of this, I definetly think they made the right choice.
I think that menstrual products should be free or at least way cheaper and not taxed as a "luxury item". People who have periods obviously do not have control over their reproductive system and cannot help it as it is a natural bodily function. I think that public restrooms should be required to provide them, like they are required to have toilet paper. Scotland 100% made the right choice as it will help keep girls in school and women in work.
I think this a great choice and it should be free. Im a man and really I dont care besides maybe theyll have free eyecare products aswell soon. Contacts and glasses should be free because I didnt choose to be blind just like women didnt choose to have periods.
I would love for menrtual products to be free, or even for them to be lower in price. I've bought cheaper supplies but it isn't as good as the more expensive supplies. I would like to be in comfort, but sometimes I can't get everything I need. Scotland did make a good choice and hopefully more countries will follow.
