School Uniforms

   School uniforms have many pros and cons. Some pros are that they can increase student focus. Studies say that when students dont have something nice on, nothing to notice or comment on, they spend more of that energy on learning and focusing in class. They can "Promote safety" inside and outside of school. Studies also say that having school uniforms make them blend in and not having to worry about being a target for "gang-involved people". One more pro is they can break down class barriers between students. When students wear uniforms, it eliminates who looks rich and who looks poor. When students dont wear school uniforms it makes the most and least  economic privileged students easier to spot. 

   The cons of having school uniforms are they can be expensive for parents than actually clothing. Uniforms can also be hard to shop for and hard to find. Uniforms can decrease self-expression. Teenagers should be able to express their emotions, tastes in music, pericings, fashion, art, and hair. Schools are tough on kids, they take away their freedom to really express who they are. Another con of uniforms are that they can be sexist. Some schools require for girls to only wear dresses, skirts and no pants. Most students are still unaware of their gender so it makes it harder for them to express who they are. 

 

   I believe students should be able to express who they really are without a school uniform. At my old school we had to wear uniforms and the dress code was strict. Blue,white, or red button up shirts. Red, blue, white,black or brown belt with khaki pants. We couldn't zip up our jackets, and couldn't wear hoodies. Our shoes had to have backs on them, and we couldnt wear open toed shoes. 

Do you think school uniforms should even be a thing? Why or why not?

I agree, I love wearing what I want.

I think that they shouldn't be a thing. Walking around the hall you see many different syles. The things you wear show who a person is without even talking to them. I feel like if Harlan had uniforms that I would feel trapped. I mean we're here 7-8hrs a day and aren't able to leave til 3 and if they were able to control what i wear and how i wear it i'd feel really controlled

I do not think that school uniforms should not be a thing. I think school uniforms take away who you are because some people express themselves with clothing. I feel a lot of people would feel uncomfortable in the uniforms too. The cost of uniforms come into play too and not all people have money for them.

I agree, if we had uniforms i would feel uncomfortable and im sure many others would too.

I do not think that school uniforms should be a thing even if they would stop bullying. I think that there is not enough reasons to make a school have uniforms. Where as many people want their freedoms and to be able to wear whatever they want whereever they want.

I strongly do not think that school uniforms should be pushed. I think that there is not enough pros and not enough benefits to push them into the schools. I think that it would be hard for people to afford them and it doesn't allow students to express themselves and dress in a way that they feel comforable.

I strongly agree, there really isnt enough pros, and it would be hard to afford and express who we really are.

I don't think schools should have uniforms because some girls also might not be comfortable wearing dresses or skirts and it could be cold outside. And piercings should be allowed that doesn't show how poor or wealthy they are. I understand that thing but if they have unifroms to not show their money why would they make them pay for expensive uniforms.

Schools make them pay for expensive uniforms because they want a healthly community. Yeah I do believe that school uniforms should not be a thing, espcially for harlan. A lot of privates schools, schools across seas as well, strongly believe that it reduces bullying and reduces peer pressure.

i don't think that school uniforms should be a thing because I believe that some people can express who they are by what they wear. Some people dont, but some people do. I also believe that we should have uniforms because you don't have much of a choice on what to wear.
