We all are aware of the school's dress code, make sure your shorts aren't too short, make sure there is nothing inappropriate on your shirt and many more rules. The primary purpose of the dress code is to eliminate any distractions in the classroom. That is why many schools require students to wear a uniform. It got me thinking, how would I feel if we had to wear uniforms?
According to American Preparatory Schools, wearing school uniforms is a key opponent to their schools. A few of the benefits of wearing uniforms include: it is easier to get ready in the morning, uniforms are more affordable, and uniforms help reduce embarrassing problems. Uniforms also help students feel more equal and give them a sense of community within their school. For bigger schools, uniforms improve safety in the school. This is because it is easier for teachers to see what students are carrying with them.
So what is the downside to wearing uniforms? Some people believe that uniforms limit students' expression. Your teenage years are when you find your taste in music, fashion, and many other aspects of your personality; some people believe uniforms might slow this down. Next, school uniforms can be sexist. Most school uniforms require girls to wear skirts. This can be sexist because girls are being told to wear traditional female clothing. Finally, uniforms can lead to more detentions for students. Students can receive a detention for their clothing even without uniforms, but that would still be the case with uniforms. If you are missing a part of your uniform or are not wearing it correctly, you could receive detention.
I see both pros and cons to school uniforms. I think teenagers should be allowed to express themself and wear what they want. I also see how wearing uniforms can reduce bullying and different embarrassing problems. Most students who wear uniforms are fine with the dress code, just like students that don't have to wear uniforms are fine without wearing uniforms. I would not like it if our school started forcing students to wear uniforms, but I think I would get used to it in time.
How would you feel if you had to wear a uniform?
What would be the biggest up-side to wearing uniforms?
What would be the biggest down-side to wearing uniforms?

Good topic choice and well done Abbie!
I wouldn't like wearing a school uniform to school because it would get boring wearing the same outfit to school every single day. I believe on upside to this would be that I would not have to worry about what I wear to school. However a big down side would be that many students would be able to express themselves by their clothing of choice, for example wearing your favorite football team merch.
I would not like wearing a uniform it takes away a lot of personality from the school environment. the biggest up-side to it is probably not having to worry about what you have to wear each day because it is already set out for you by the school district.
I agree, wearing school uniforms takes away a lot of personality from the school environment. I feel that students should be able to express themselves through their clothing.
I think that the biggest positive side of wearing school uniforms could be reducing embarassing problems and not making people who can't afford good clothing feel bad. At the same time in my opinion it's important for students to be able to express themselves through clothing and to be able to wear what makes them feel good and comfortable.
I also think it is a positive that it could reduce embarrassing problems and people being made fun of. I agree that students should wear what they want!
I don't think that there should be school uniforms and that they should have the option to wear what ever they feel like wearing that day. Also in the spring and fall the uniforms could become very hot and uncomfortable for people. However no one could be dress coded wearing a uniform.
I would feel uncomfortable in mandatory clothing. I feel comfortable in the clothes that I wear to school on a daily basis. I think students should have the freedom to choose what they wear to school. However; I think that one up-side could be that everybody would be wearing the same thing which could eliminate bullying and abuse of dress-code.
I agree, people wear clothing that makes them feel comfortable. So why make us wear clothes that will make us feel uncomfortable. I think we should just pick our clothing and not wear uniforms.
I personally wouldn't want to wear uniforms because I simply just like my clothes. Not to mention I'm still trying to figure out my own style and that would be difficult if we had to wear assigned clothing to school. I mean it could be good because everyones wearing the same thing so there's no judgement on peoples styles choices or anything. But overall people, including myself, prefer to wear their own clothes and I think there'd be lots of issues if it were enforced. So in my opinion it should just stay the way it is.
