A 12-year-old girl, Caitlyn Jackson, passed away Saturday from leukemia. Students and friends at Lakeview Middle School wore t-shirts in her favorite colors, blue and orange, some printed with her name. She was fighting leukemia for about 4 years. It was surprising to students and parents when the told them on Monday, school grief counselors at the Battle Creek, Michigan school told them that they would have to either change their shirts or choose to turn them inside out or cover Caitlyn’s name with duct tape.
Why do you think about this? Do you think that they should have done it? What would you have done if your school district told you to take off your shirt that was remembering someone close to you?

Again, a great topic choice and write up but you never replied to anyone.
I think the students were right in remembering their friend. I think the school was rude in asking them to remove the shirts. They weren't offensive shirts from what I understand.
I would be very offended. If it had been a close friend, I probably would've refused. My question is, what possible reason would they have for covering her name up? It wasn't inappropriate. This is outrageous. It was very sweet and kind for her classmates to do this in memory of her.
I would try to wear it anyways and argue the rule. I don't know why they would make them take the shirts off. We sort of did this when Ryan was in his accident a few years ago with wristbands and the whole community participated. If someone close to me ever died I don't think anyone at this school would try and make me take it off unless it was distracting to other people for some reason.
That is very kind of the students to wear her favorite colors in memory of her. Why would the school do that. I don't see what would be the problem. They were doing any harm or nothing. The kids were supporting someone who went to their school, whose life was taken by cancer. She had to deal with that for 4 years. If I went to that school, I would not take off the shirt or cover up the name. I would not!
I wouldn't change my shirt if I went to this school. They weren't doing anything wrong. They were supporting their friend/ classmate or even family member. I wouldn't cover up her name either. I think it was wrong of the school for them to tell them to do something like this.
Seems like a pretty lame school to me I think they acted badly and did unnecessary things by not letting them wear it. It wasn't offending the school in anyway so that makes me wonder why they did it. I don't think I would have taken off the shirt or put it inside out because that person was obviously pretty close to some of those kids.
I think that is very sweet that some people worse shirts in her favorite colors. But I think what the school did was very rude and unnecessary. They had no reason to not let them wear those shirts. They weren't offending anyone... they were supporting someone whose life was taken by cancer.
