Schools all over are closing due to the coronavirus, this causes many students to be stuck at home with their classes on hold. Scholastic has launched a new website called Learn at Home. This website contains daily courses for kids starting at pre-K. Scholastic plans on covering all the subjects that you as a student would take at a normal school day. The website is divided into four parts based on your grade level. Currently this only has five days worth of content, but fifteen more days is going to be released soon. This is a free website offered to anyone, with up to three hours of learning per day.

Questions:

  1. If you were stuck at home would you consider taking these courses?

Yes, even though I would love the free time I feel like I would get really bored. Also, I would get stressed out because I would be behind in my education.

  1. Do you think Scholastic is benefitting this situation or making it worse?

Definitely helping by giving all ages of kids something to do that's educational.

  • Your summary is fine but you didn't reply to any student comments.

  • I do not think I would take advantage of this, unless my parents required me to do so. Because yes, it is a great program that they are offering. But I feel like I still would not use because I always like when we have no school, and I try to avoid school as much as I can.

  • 1. If I absolutely had to I would, but if we were gunna make up all the school days we missed than no I wouldn't do anything and just do all my work when I come back.

    2. Worse because its gunna give teachers a reason to screw the kids over their break with a load of homework.

  • Well if it gets graded and it'll raise my grades, but if not then no. They are benefitting this situation because it will help schools that need education to be taught to the students.

  • I think that this is a good idea to help kids while school is cancelled. I think that it is most beneficial to younger kids because it is hard for their teachers to set up real online courses for them because they are so young. I think that this is a good thing for parents to consider giving to their kids to practice their skills while they are not at school.
