Sandra, a 33 year old orangutan who lived in captivity for over 20 years is relocated and grated personhood. Judge Elena Liberatori ruling gave Sandra basic rights including life, freedom, and a premise of "no harm" either physically or psychologically. Because of the lack of orangutan sanctuaries in Argentina, where sandra previously lived, the judge asked the Center for Great Apes, the only accredited sanctuary for orangutans in the Americas, to take her in. Sandra was then held in quarantine for a month at the Sedgwick County Zoo in Kansas. Sandra is now located at the Center for Great Apes with 21 other orangutans and 31 chimpanzees that have been rescued from circuses, stage shows, roadside attraction, labs, and the exotic pet trade. What are other ways that awareness can be brought to how special great apes are and the threats they are facing?
- I think that the news need to bring more light to this issue and show more pictures of the actual conditions that these very special animals are living in.
How can the lack of sanctuaries and places adquant to house apes be solved?
- I think more government and organization funding should be raised in order to build more and better sanctuaries.

Well done Lexi!
I agree with you. I think it's important that the public really sees how the animals live in their contained homes. I also agree with you on how the government should be involved in making more sanctuaries for the apes. If they have more room, they'll be happier and know that they have room to get around.
I agree that pictures of the conditions that these animals have to face should be shown because then a lot of people would understand. The government should fund to be able to build more santuaries because they would be a huge help for all the apes.
I think that many things could have been done to bring out the awareness of the great apes. In this generation there is the great thing called sodia media. Posthing information on Facebook or Twitter would have been a great way to inform people about the great apes. I think that fundraising would be a great way to aquire money to build more and better sanctuaries.
I agree that more could be put out there in the media about the Great Apes like articles, pictures, and videos so people can understand and see if for themselves instead of being ignorant or even knowing but not really considering it. To solve the lack of places, there could be more built or improve the ones to make them adequate enough.
I think that most people dont think it is very important but others would argue because they couldvery possibly become endangered. They could run short on food or become prey to a prediter if released.
How would you help make these people aware that these orangutans are very important and need our help and funding? Yes, I agree with you that without this funding these precious animals will quickly become extinct.
I think that one of the big ways to raise awarness of great apes is through social media because posts on social media are seen by more people than on the news in todays world. I think that the government should fund and build more sanctuaries to protect the great apes.
I strongly agree that raising awareness for argentatus will have the best success on social media because social media does not discriminate. People from all walks of the world use and or have socials media and one single post can reach thousands.
1. - I think that it would definately carry in the news, but social media would carry it farther. This way things like social media "organizations" can shed some light on situations like this, not only for apes but also for other animals that are at risk of going extinct or being forgotten.
2. - I agree, and I think that the government could also take part in funding places that will build more sanctuaries. This way we are actually giving them places to stay and be safe and protected, therefore keeping them around longer.
