Rutgers quarterback, McLane Carter, announced on Twitter that he is retiring from football due to health reasons. McLane Carter had only played two games with the Rutgers after he transferred from Texas Tech University. Carter suffered a concussion against Iowa in the second game of the season and he didn't play since then. McLane Carter tweeted on Wednesday, October 9, that playing football has always been his dream and he gave everything he had into playing football. He said that football has brought him a lot of happiness and opportunities but he also said it brought him pain and surguries so he decided to medically retire. Carter says he has played football for a long time and he will miss it a lot but he says it is time to move on. McLane Carter played two seasons for Texas Tech University and in those two years he had 677 passing yards and 4 touchdowns. In those two seasons he only played 10 games.

Do you think the NCAA should help out players who have experienced injuries? Why?

In my opinion I do not think the NCAA should assist the players who have experienced injuries because it was the players choice to join the league. If they want to play football, they need to be able to battle through an injury without asking the league for help.

What do you think the NCAA can do to help prevent head injuries?

I believe the NCAA could do some experiments with new helmets and find out which helmet works the best. The NCAA could put in a rule that if you hit anyone above the neck, that they could be kicked out of the league incase that player were to do it again.

  • Well done Ashton!

  • I think they should because the players are in the luague be cause they were requested to join. I think it is pretty hard but they could work to protect your head more.

  • I think yes they should help with the injuries because then it could be alot better in the future for the team. The team could have less of a chance of people retiring for sports if they help out witht that. The NCAA could have better uniform with more pretection and and better helmets so then the players could be safe.

  • I agree that the players know what they are getting into and injuries are likely to happen but I think they could at least help them out a little since they were just doing what they are supposed to. I agree that helmets should be looked into because of all the concussions but I think that your rule would be hard to enforce.

  • I agree, it was their choice to join and play. Ever since joining football you know what can happen and you can get seriously injured. I think they should try making better equipment to try and help prevent stuff like this from happening. Teach players how to play safe and get better equipment.

    • I agree, the equipment needs to be a lot safer, they need to do alot more testing then what they already do they need to make sure its completely safe for everyone so everyone enjoys there job.

  • In my opinion, it is not the NCAA's's responsibility to take care of injured athletes, because the athletes know the risks involved with playing college sports. I think the best way to help with head injuries would be to have players regularly examined and to take any head injury seriously.

  • I agree with you that the NCAA should not help pay for injuries that happened during the sport.  Also I think the NCAA has already done a lot just by making rules but I think they could be a little more strict on it, also I agree with you that they can always keep making helmets better to prevent injuries like that.

    • I completely agree with you because the NCAA is already trying to help the players by having rules on big hits and having better helmets for the quarterbacks. The NCAA needs to focus on making better helmets not on paying players medical bills.

  • I do not think they should players know what they signed up for, your going get injerys at some point in the game.  At the same tim i think they should help a little bit more cause the school is making a lot of money off them for not getting payed. I think the NCAA can put nore money into helmet reserch cause they are loseing players from it and people are hurting there future.
