In February of 2019, Russia banned all smartphones and social media for soldiers. Russia's Parliment passed this ban on Tuesday, February 19th. The soldiers are allowed to use basic calling and messaging devices that are set up in certain facilities. However, tablets and laptops have also been banned. Soldiers can no longer FaceTime, post pictures with friends, or even send recordings with background noise. Along with that, they are also not allowed to write in journals about the military or talk to any journalists about what they are doing. Russia is trying to decrease the exposer of their military practices and think banning smartphones will make it harder to track their military.

How would you communicate with your loved ones if your phone/computer got taken away?
I would try and use the facilities with calling devices as much as I could. Although all of the other soldiers will also be using them so it would be a lot harder to keep in contact with my friends and family.
How long do you think this will last?
I think they have the right idea about trying to hide their military, but I also feel bad for the soldiers. I feel like soldiers will still write in journals or send messages to their families with their phones, so I wonder if their will be a punishment for those who break the rules. I don't think it will last long if soldiers disobey their orders, but if they follow the rules who knows how long they will continue with no smartphones.

Welld one Jocelyn!
I would write letters to them because that seems like the only way that the government will allow us to communicate. I think it will last a long time because it's enforced by the government and they will probably make exceptions, or the soldiers will boycott the rule and it will be overturned.
1. I would probably use any thing I could find around the facility to contact my family. Regular flip phones can't be tracked so maybe they will be allowed to use those.
2. I think that this will last a long time because it is a great way to keep a low profile for all the soldiers and they will not be able to get tracked as easy.
I would try to use a phone in the facility or I would write a letter in hopes that it made it there. Every other soldier would be doing this also so it would be harder to reach my family. I don't think this will last long, as there will be many soldiers who try to get out of the military and they could potentially lose more people because of this reason.
I think I would also try and use the facilities however like you said, hey will most likely be super busy because most soldiers will want to use them too. For the sake of the soldiers, I hope it doesn't last too long because I feel bad for the soldiers that can't talk to their families, and I think they deserve to communicate with their loved ones if they're fighting for their country.
Yes, writing letters to keep them updated is a good idea but those often take awhile to get delivered too and from so it would be hard to communicate, especially if they aren't allowed to send letters. I understand what you're saying about keeping them focused, however, I disagree because I think the soldiers need to be able to talk to their families otherwise they will start to worry and become more unfocused because they will wonder how their family is doing.
1. Well I'd use their facilities and if I had to I'd write letters. There's not really much more that you could do unless they could read smoke signals.
2. I'm not sure. If it shows that this does keep their military stuff secret then probably a long time. If it doesn't work then I think they might enforce it more and make sure nobody is sneaking phones in or anything.
True, they can go to the designated facilities but I am sure those will often be very busy. I don't think smoke signals would work very well because that would be leading the enemies right to them. Yes, I think they would try and enforce it better if people don't follow the rule, but I wonder how they could do that.
I would use what I would have. It would be hard to not be able to see a loved one through Facetime or just send them pictures. In my opinion, I don't think this will last that long. I bet some people are mad already because of not seeing them on screen.
Yes, I agree that it would be hard not being able to see your family. I think it would be especially hard for the soldiers with young children because pictures and FaceTime is often the only way many of them can see their children grow up. I hope it doesn't last long or at least they find a way to hide better.
