Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter Dies

                Last Sunday, Rubin ‘Hurricane’ Carter past away due to “complications” in his prostate cancer. Rubin was originally a boxer seeking to win championships, until the 1960’s where he was wrongly convicted of triple murder, and spent 19 years of his life in prison. It wasn’t until November of 1985 when he was released without bail because a judge and come to the realization that he was prosecuted on grounds of racism, and there was no real evidence that Rubin had committed the crime. After he was released, he spent the rest of his life in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. John Artis, A friend of Carter, was with him when he died on that Sunday morning. Artis was also put in jail alongside Rubin as an accomplice.

  • I think the issue with this story is very few of the students know who Carter was.

  • The fact that this man was ever put in jail just shows how flawed our criminal system is.

  • there was a movie made in 1999 about his life, and some people that had helped him get a court hearing.

  • I have never heard of him in my life. He must have been a very good wrestler and maybe it was racism that made him stay in jail so long. If I was Carter, I wouldn't want all the pressure on me to do the right thing.
