Robots, Fear or Fascination?

One week ago a robotic hand solved a rubix cube. The small toy cube has 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 combinations and the hand solved it in under 4 minutes. This has left some to wonder, what other complex processes are robots capable of? Most robots in use today do simple, easy tasks and are used commonly in warehouses at companies like Amazon. What we have come to learn though is that robots are capable of learning too through AI (Artificial Intelligence). While this may seem like a huge feat other machines are capable of solving the cube in under a second. Although those robots are specialized in that one task this was a genuine robotic hand that was meant for multiple tasks. Some worry that robots could gain sentience or rise up against their creators. Some people worry about stealing jobs from those who need it. One thing is for certain, robots will change our future. Read the article here.

  1. Do you fear the advancements in robotics? Why or why not?

I welcome the advances in technology, these are going to benefit the world some day with enough construction and advances. We may be able to do anything through robots.

  1. What good could come from these advances?

I believe that robots are the future of tough and hard labor and simple jobs. Maybe one day we could have fully thinking robots and new "people" that can think.

  • Good sumamry but you onlu commented three times. With two pages of comments you should reply to most.

  • I am not sure if I welcome it or fear it, I think I welcome it because we can get better construction and make products faster, and even find a cure for cancer, but it could take critical jobs. I think that robots will and already are replacing people on simple assembly line jobs like making computers and such.

    • This is a fear most blue collar workers have. Especially since most manual labor jobs will become automated by robots in the coming future.

  • I dont fear them I think that they are changing the world in a good way and helping with things that could be a struggle and making them easier. I think that lots of good can come from these robots, however people could lose their jobs becuase of these robots and they could end up being faulty and maybe exploding and other bad things could happen. Some good would be that they can make things easier, do the hard labor to make it easier on the people working those jobs and make more high tech advancements to different things.

    • It is a posibility that the robots could malfunction in jobs that is true. The you have workers come in to fix it, so could they just be changing jobs? Now we need technitians to fix the robots.

  • If robotics get to the point were they could start doing manual labor of then people throwing out their backs for their work. I agree with what you said about we should get to the point were robots do all smalll and tedious tasks. I agree with your statement that one day they will become free thinking and be one with us human.

    • The idea of a humanized robot is very complicated because if they are free thinking do they have a concience even though they are programmed? In a way it would change the idea of living.

  • I think that the advances in robotic technology will have a benifit to all human life. If robotics get to the point were they could start doing manual labor of then people throwing out their backs for their work. I agree with what you said about we should get to the point were robots do all smalll and tedious tasks.

  • 1. Yes I fear robots. I've always been scared of what robots could do, even just simple Alexias make me feel uncomfortable. I only fear that if robots become a big thing in our lives, then people will depend on robots more and more every time they go to do something. This will cause humans to become worthless basically if a robot is doing every little thing for them.

    2. I can think of one good reason why we need robots. Humans are cabable of doing things on our own we dont need a robots to do anything in our dailey life but lets say we want to learn more about the ocean, or space but we know our bodies arent cabable to, or will be put in danger. We could attach a camera on or into a robot and set them off.

  • For the most part, I also welcome the advances in technology. They will definitely benefit the world someday, and we will be able to do much with them. Eventually, it could be harmfull by taking others jobs, and could get somewhat human like. There are many good things that would come out of these advances. In the medical field they could be used for tricky surgeries and in factories they could make things. They could also help others with disabilities.
