Sophia is a robot in Saudi Arabia, that was activated in 2015. She was granted citizenship in late October. Sophia has the ability to carry on and create a conversation. She has been interviewed just as a person would. This month Sophia was interviewed, in which she stated that one day she hopes to have a baby robot named after her. In the same interview Sophia says that there will be more robot families. Sophia also states that there will be humanoid helpers in the public such as friends , assistants, and everything between.

Questions
1. How do you feel about robots/humanoids being able to learn, speak, and do what they want?
2. If Saudi Arabia does not let anyone become a citizen without being Muslim, is Sophia Muslim? If so, why doesn't she cover up like other Muslim women?
My Opinion
I think that it's cool but at the same time, it's scary. It's cool because we've reached that point in technology. Then again it's scary because We don't know what the robots can or will do.
I believe that Saudi Arabia thinks/believes/knows that Sophia does not have or belong to a religion. Therefor they allowed her to become a citizen.

I think that this is such an amazing thing, but I also think there is a side of it that is scary. I think that its amazing that any country could manage to create something so amazing. I don't think that Saudi Arabia's government makes Sophia cover up because she is a robot. She isn't a human so she doesn't have the same things that humans have.
I think it would be cool but also a little creepy.Just because the robot acts like a human doesn't mean it is a human , therefore it shouldn't be a citizen and shouldn't be covered up.
I think that it's really cool that people have discovered how to do this. I don't think Sophia should be considered Muslim because unless she practices the Islamic religion, she isn't Muslim technically.
1). Deep learning and AI is a huge step in electronic/technological intelligence. It allows us to learn so much more and take possible labor off of the backs of humans and replace them with robots. As for self-awareness, it should still be closely monitored just in case there are any cases of a SkyNet situation.
2). A robot simply cannot have a religion. Isn't human, isn't fully self aware, Saudi Arabia probably knows this. Also the fact that Sophia doesn't have a gender, technically.
I think it's cool and can be helpful but also you never know what they might do and it could be dangerous. The people of Saudi Arabia may understand that she is just a robot and think hat she doesn't have to have a religion but some might think the opposite.
It is kind of scary because actually they are just "things", but act like normal humans which is really really weird to me. But like you said it's also amazing and fascinating that something like that is possible. I wouldn't consider her as a Muslim until she said so because religion isn't really anything that you can decide for someone.
I agree with you it is scary and weird and I also agree with the religion being decided, but how can she decide because she is a Robot- humanoid she does not have her own feelings, she is programmed to feel and think what someone else feels and thinks.
I think it's amazing that we have reached this level of intelligence so soon, but it concerns me because we don't have the intelligence the robots do. They might take over jobs and make it so humans don't have to work, but the downside of that is they could lash out in ways we wouldn't expect. I think they allowed her to become a citizen because she was activated in Saudi Arabia so it's the only home she has ever known making her a citizen of the country. I don't think she covers up because she doesn't identify with a certain religion.
It actually reminds me of a movie I watched with Will Smith called I Robot where the robots took over the world and started controlling the humans, so it is a little nerve racking.
