Justin Bieber recently just bought two hybrid exotic cats. He purchased the two Savannah hybrid cats from an exotic breeder in lllinois for $35,000. After Bieber created an instagram account for his two kitties, Sushi and Tuna, which you can follow at @kittysushiandtuna, PETA quickly responded to him. PETA is attacking Justin for supporting the crisis of the overpopulation of animals. PETA also claims that the breeding of hybrid cats is dangerous and should not be supported. They are also arguing that when it comes to purchasing pets, all future owners should adopt from shelters and rescues. Justin Bieber's main response to PETA's complaints are that when it comes to preference, rescues and shelters do not necessarily have what you are always looking for. In my opinion, the places PETA is suggesting Justin should consider adopting from will never acquire something that fits his exotic taste. Basically at the end of this argument, Justin is telling PETA to get their nose out of his business and to focus on more pressing issues, like that of animal brutality and the plastic in the ocean....However, PETA refuses to back down saying that "because people pay breeders, many of them [the animals living in shelters] will pay with their lives". I agree with PETA when they say that it is better to support rescues and shelters by adopting from them. In instances where you are not looking for something specific, I think those are the places you need to first look, because you will be saving an animal from possible euthanization. The overpopulation of animals is a crisis and animal shelters are continuously struggling to support all of the animals in their facilities. I would not purchase pets from exotic breeders because they call for too high of a price and I would be more concerned about the lives of the animals that I would save at rescues and shelters.

Do you think Justin Bieber is in the wrong here and should listen to PETA?
What is your opinion on the overpopulation of animals crisis? What are some ways to help control this issue?

Great job Ania!!
I couldn't care less about what Justin does, if Justin wants to get a cat then I don't really care. Would it have been nice for him to adopt, yes of course. But is he going to do something because it is nice, no he probably isn't. Their are a lot of animals in shelters, but PETA always finds a way to overreact to anything.
Yes and no, because they could also focus on main and big problems like, plastic in the ocean that needs to be dealt with. Or the problem with animal brutality because that could cause rage for the animal. But I also think yes because we need to save animals from these shelters and care for them. The overpopulation of animals to me isn't really a crisis because its problem but its not extreme. Plus, these animals been here longer than us and they know things.
While the issue of overpopulation of animals does not appear to be too extreme yet, I think the reason PETA tries to bring huge awareness to this is because the animals that are not in shelters, rescues, or in someone's home, are on the streets starving, frightened, and suffering a great deal.
I don't believe that Justin Bieber is in the wrong. It would of been nice if he got the cats from a shelter, but if you have all that money, why shouldn't you get an exotic pet? As long as he takes care of them, I see no problem with it. The overpopulation of animals crisis is not good, but I believe this could be controlled by limited breeding and more encouragement to rescue or adopt animals.
I completely agree with your statement. Justin Bieber did not do anything illegal here. PETA is making it seem that buying pets from breeders is a completely horrible thing to do when it's clearly not.
No I don't think he is in the wrong. If you were rich and had all that money laying around why not get a really cool exotic cat. I do think that PETA point was valid, but they shouldn't have attacked him for just getting a cat. Yes there are a lot of animals in shelters, but PETA doesn't need to make a huge deal out of this.
That is exactly what I think! Thousands of people are constantly supporting breeders, whether that be for exotic animals, designer breeds, or just regular cute breeds that are not common in shelters or rescues. PETA is overreacting in this situation, and is blowing this way out of proportion.
Justin Bieber is not wrong, all he did was buy them, PETA is more responsible for killing animals in their own shelters than Antarctic seal poachers, PETA is not a reliable organization and no one should listen to them after all of the controversy they have been going through. Overpopulation of animals is because of an economy that has high demand for pets because they are cute. Overpopulation is a problem that PETA pointed out and that is their explanation for having to kill animals in their own shelters, they could've lowered the prices on the pets. Instead, they do the most inhumane thing ever: kill the pets because they aren't selling. Which is like killing an employee for not producing.
You make some very good points that I had not thought about... I agree with your statement that our economy has a high demand for cute pets and that that could be a leading reason as to why the animal overpopulation is so bad.
