Riots in Albuquerque

On Sunday evening, several protesters clashed with police in Albuquerque and ended in several arrests and gas canisters being thrown at the crowd. The original protest was over the 37 recent shootings by police with 23 of them being fatal in the past few years. People believe that is too many for a city of that size and that most of the fatal shooting could have been avoided. Hundreds of protesters marched 2 miles from downtown Albuquerque to the University of New Mexico protesting the police shootings. The protest turned violent later in the evening with several people who supposedly weren't even connected with the original protest joined in and started throwing rocks at the police. At one point protesters trapped police in a vehicle and tried to break the windows.

I do think that the amount of fatal shootings by the police is high but not knowing the exact situation of each one, I do not think I can base my opinion on that alone. The protesters, however, went too far and this whole situation could have been avoided. What do you think of the situation? Do you think the number of fatal shootings from the police are too high? How do you think this situation could have been avoided?
