Republican thinks NFL should pay taxes

NFL Commissioner Rodger Goodell may very well have to defend the NFL's Non-profit status. The NFL is being examined for not paying taxes. While the individual teams pay taxes the NFL doesn't have to. When the NFL was first established they were setup as a non-profit organization. After millions of people watched the Super Bowl XLIX everybody knows they are no longer a non-profit organization. The republican senator Jason Chaffetz wants to change it to where it is an organization that has to pay taxes just like the teams.

I thought that the NFL had to pay taxes due to how much money to they make per year. I was also surprised to find out that they didn't have to pay taxes. They all of the NFL should have to pay taxes not just the teams but organizations should also.

What do think about the NFL not paying taxes? How do you think Commissioner Goodell would defend the non-profit status?

  • Well done!

  • I mean it would be awesome if they paid taxes so we could pay less. They have plenty of money so I think its a pretty good idea.

  • I think it is a good idea so then we should have to pay less haha. They make plenty of money so it isn't a terrible idea.

    • I agree that he will try to avoid paying taxes with to the best of his ability. They really should pay taxes since the individual teams have to.

  • I think government does anything to get money and its annoying. But I don't know they get tons of money so they should just like other people but im not sure.

  • Seriously? The government will do anything in their power just to get money. I don't think they NFL should have to pay taxes. Sure, all the players make a lot of money, but the organization is, as stated in the article, a "Non-Profit organization".
Hopefully Commissioner Goodell can defend himself and the organization enough to fend off the taxes.

    • The NFL was set up as a Non-Profit organization when they started. Now they make $4 million or more off of just one Super Bowl commercial.

  • I think the NFL should pay taxes. I mean there is so much more money involved than in the individual teams, so why not ?

  • I really don't think it is fair that the NFL doesn't pay taxes. Almost everyone in this country has taxes and to think that a profit organization doesn't have to pay those just doesn't set right with me. I think the only thing Commissioner Goodell can really say is that the teams pay taxes and that would make them kind of pay taxes ... ?

  • If they can pay every player millions of dollars and get $4 million for a 30 second ad in the Super Bowl, they can afford taxes. Goodell probably won't try too hard to defend it because plenty of people are already scrutinizing him for the recent NFL scandals. *cough Adrian Petersen cough*
