Report finds Australian troops unlawfully killed 39 Afghans

WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- A shocking Australian military report into war crimes. It has found evidence that elite Australian troops unlawfully killed 39 Afghan prisoners, farmers and civilians. And that they did it behind the Chief Gen. back.

So baciscally the Australian Defence Force Chief Gen. Angus Campbell said "Thursday the shameful record included alleged instances in which new patrol members would shoot a prisoner in order to achieve their first kill in a practice known as 'œblooding." He aslo said "the soldiers would then plant weapons and radios to support false claims the prisoners were enemies killed in action." And what some Australian's think is that they had no right doing what they did behind his back, but now that he can't stop them from doing it that there was nothing for him to do about it now. I think that he could of or not have talked them not to do it but yet again Australia's troops has gone behind his back before.

Do you think that the soliders should of done what they did? Yes or no

Do you think that the Chief ordered them to do it?

  • Good job replying to students Jessa! Overall, your story is more of a summary and not a hot take. I am looking for more of your opinion and thoughts.

  • I 100% think that what the soliders did was completely wrong. The way that they would kill people for their "first kill" like a tradition is disgusting and inhumane. I don't know if the Cheif had anything to do with it, but this should have never happened. People that could commit these acts should not be allowed to be in the military or even have a gun.

    • I agree with you there cause what they did they shouldn't have done it and they did it anyway. I also agree with how if they did this they shouldn't be in the military or even have a gun. It was really wrong for what they did.

  • I believe the actions of these soldiers wer unjust. After looking the incident up, civilians and farmers were included in the report. These acts are actually considered war crimes. I do not believe the Chief had anything to do with the acts, but he should be punished as actions like these should be publicly stated as reprimandable.

  • I don't think that the soliders should have killed those people. It doesn't matter if they were criminals, they do not have the authority to dceide whether or not they should live or die.  I don't think that the chief ordered them to do it. Most high ranking military officials do not want to kill people without good reason because it puts their integrity and jobs at stake.

    • I agrre with you one hundred percent cause what the did just puts a bad name on the military and on themselves. I'm debating on weither or not to believe that the cheif did order them to do it or not cause people are saying that he did and others are saying that he didn't.

  • Shooting someone who's unarmed and isn't attacking you is wrong, regardless of if it's someone who's comitted a crime in the past. Shooting a prisoner is exactly that, it's killing, it's murder, and it's not something that should be celebrated. I don't know if someone ordered this, but if they did they are just as crooked as the people actually pulling the trigger.

  • I definitely do not think the soldiers should have done what they did because it was obviously wrong and they should use their better judgement. I don't think that the chief ordered them to do it because as a chief I don't think he would be that corrupt.

    • I agree, I think that maybe they should of had a chance to live because maybe some of them didn't do anything wrong.  I also think that they didn't oreder them to kill 39 troops because that is just asking to much out of the soldiers and what makes him think of those 39 troops.

  • no, I think what they did was very wrong and I think they should be held accountable for their misbehavior. it is a cruel and brutal act that is unacceptable. I do not think that the chief ordered them to do it but I would not rule it out until proven otherwise.
