It seems today the only way to bring back a franchise that hasn't had a movie in a couple of years is a remake or reboot. There is now news of three films that have the possibility of being remade. First off, a remake of Highlander from 1986, which spawned about four or five sequels, most of them straight to DVD. The Queen-induced original wasn't much of a hit then, and the sequels just got worse. I think that unless it is done right, a remake isn't necessary. Then there's Point Break, a remake to the 1991 action flick. While it made money back in the day, few have remembered it and it doesn't stay up there with other 90's action films like Speed or Die Hard 2 and 3. And finally, a remake that has been trying to happen for years: Hellraiser. The original and its sequels all made a few bucks, but the signature character of Pinhead alone will give the remake money, as long as it is done right (ie not Nightmare on Elm Street style). Personally, these remakes and things of movies just over 20 years old is way too soon. Wait another five or six years and then try again, but then again, these studio hounds do make money off these franchises.
