On Thursday April 26, 2018, thousands of teachers in Arizona walked out of their class rooms to demand more funding for public schools. Hundreds of public schools in Arizona are shut down due to the teachers going on strike. On thursday the streets were filled with educators and their supporters as they marched 2 miles in 90 degree weather to the Sate Capitol. Those who participated in this march wore red t-shirts and chanted " Red for Ed". The average teacher salary in Arizona is $48,372, but newer teachers make less than that. The startign pay for teachers in Arizona in $35,000. Teachers proceeded with the walkout even though a promise was made by the governor to increase their salaries 20 percent by 2020. Every Wednesday teachers all around Arizona vote on if they go back to school or not. If they vote on not going back to school, students have another 3 days off of school and then they vote again. Teachers were told not to teach anything new and as of now finals will not be taken.

Do you think that teachers should have a higher pay? Why or why not?
Yes, I think that teachers deserve to be paid more because they are the ones preparing us for our futures. Without teachers no one would be learning anything which would not be good for future generations. Teachers spend their days at a school teaching us life skills and preparing us for when we become adults.

If I was a teacher, I would want to participate in the march because I think that they need as many people as they can get to help accomplish their goals of more funding for public schools.

I think that certain teachers deserve higher pay. If they do a good job they should get higher pay, and if they aren't good teachers they should have a lower pay. I would participate if I thought I was getting unfair pay.
I agree that if the teacher is doing their job the best it can be done and helping the students they deserve a higher pay than those teachers who are not teaching, but I do believe that all teachers deserve to be paid fairly.
yes, i think the teachers should have a high pay, because teachers teach those who in the future would be teachers or other prophecies, and they also help to build a great educated people and they have a family to support. And I would participate
I think that they should be paid more because these teachers are the people that are preparing us for our future on what we need in the future. Teachers play an important role in students' lives and so are the parents of these students. I think that I would participate in the march, but it would be awful for the students because they aren't being taught anything which would also make this most likely even harder to learn something.
I completely agree the teachers are making a big impact on students' lives and I think that a teacher is very important for people to grow up and become successful. Yes it would be bad for the students while they aren't learning anything, but if teachers are given the raise there will be money for better supplies in the school and could benefit them.
I think they should. Teachers are the people who help the future generations grow, without them there if no possible way that we could be very sucessful. They spend countless hours to help children learn and grow. I would because it would be the right thing to do. It is supporting my future and children's futures in general.
I agree without teachers our future generations would not be successful because the teachers are the ones teaching us and helping prepare us for the world. Although students may think they're never going to use the stuff they learn in school, they may use it for their job and also it is preparing us to work hard even if we don't want to do somoething.
Yes they have a right to get a higher pay. The only thing is that only teacher who actually teach well and try to help the students should get paid higher because there are some teachers that just show vidoes instead of teaching.
I agree the teachers that teach well and help the students to educate them should be paid higher than the teachers who don't do their jobs the best they can. I also think how longn and what they're teaching should be considered as well.
