Rare Pink Dolphin Spotted

Captain Erik Rue, a Louisiana boat captain, first saw the dolphin they now call Pinky in 2007. Back then, Pinky always stuck by her mother, a regular colored dolphin. But now Pinky swims by herself. Pinky is believed to be the only dolphin of her type, at least to ever be reported. Biologist belive she has a condition where her blood vessels are so close to her skin that they tint it pink.

Questions:

Do you think her blood vessels being so close to her skin might harm Pinky in the future?

If Pinky ever mated, what color do you think her calves would turn out to be?

  • I think they might mess up her in the future because she could be swimming and she might pop a blood vessle or something

  • If pinky ever got injured or a bad fight in the future. She would be injured bad, I think she would bleed a lot because her blood vessels are so close to the surface of her skin. I don't think if she mated her calves wouldn't be pink I think they would just be gray

  • I think that Pinky's blood vessels being so close to her skin might cause her to be more prone to bleeding or injury if she gets hurt in anyway. If Pinky ever mated, I don't think her calves would be pink because if she's the only pink dolphin ever to be spotted than more than likely the calf would turn out the usual dolphin-gray, since that's the more common and dominant characteristic. I think, at most, her calves might have a pinkish tint to them, but not the complete color.

  • I think that if pinky  were to get attacked in the future it could affect her badly. If she mated I think that she might get a mix, some normal and some pink.

  • I think that veins being so close to the skin could make her prone to excessive bleeding, even if she only got a small cut. If Pinky ever mated, I think that the regular dolphin's traits would come out on the offspring. Regular dolphin color is the more dominant trait.

    • I agree with you. Hopefully, she is never harmed

  • I think she may have problems in the future being her blood vessels are so close to the skin. The disease called hemophilia is when a human gets cut their blood can't clot so they end up bleeding out. This may be harmful to her.

    • That sounds like a very probable disease for Pinky to have

  • It could harm her because if she gets an injury that causes her to bleed, it could be really bad. Her calves would most likely be grey because it is more dominant.
