Taylor Swift... A Politician?

Taylor Swift made a post on Instagram, highlighting her political views. No, she is not running for president, but I do think that would be one interesting scene. Although this may be true, according to an article I read on Newsela, she is supporting a Democrratic canidate in the Senate. Come the midterm election in November, I now know that Swift will be backing Democrat, Phil Bredesen. After making a post on Instagram regarding her support for Phil and talking badly about Republican, Marsha Bluckburn, many Republicans, including Donald Trump, criticized her while others appluaded her. Even though she stated that in the past she witheld herself from making comments toward politics, this is one post she will not be able to take back.

Questions:

Question- Do think that it is right that Donald Trump criticized Taylor Swift for her post?

Answer- I think that although this may not be completely what people want to her from a president, it is awesome how much Trump speaks his mind. One of my favorite things about President Trump is his inability to use a filter. Debating politics is something that dates back to the originals. Therefore, I think that no matter who it is, they have a right to debate other peoples view.

Question- Do you think that Republicans will keep their stand over the senate, or Democrats will take over?

Answer- I think that Republicans will, by far, keep reign because they are more powerful and, frankly, they have people in higher places. As of right now, they are in charge of the senate with majority and hopefully it will stay this way.

    • I totally agree that politicians are always criticized and now its just kind of a normal thing. I don't think that this will ever really change either. I do disagree about the Democrats taking over the senate because of younger people though. 18 is the youngest age people can vote, there are many people older than that who are able to vote. Therfore, I think that Republicans will keep majority.

  • People have the right to critize people but sometimes Donald Trump should keep his mouth closed and more people would like him. He really likes to talk when people have diffrent views. I have been following races, which a lot of the republicans and democrats are very close in the polls. I think more people will go out and vote and I feel like democrats will do well in the election.

    • I do agree with you Brock, people do have the right to debate and criticize other people. Sometimes I do think that Donald could present himself a little bit more professional but in some instances I like his rawness. This could affect his popularity but I think it is one reason that some people specifically like him. At this point I'm not sure who will have majority of the Senate. As of right now, I think it is more likely that Republicans will keep hold on it.

  • I think that it's fine that Donald Trump criticized Taylor Swift and he has the right to, but saying that he likes her music 25% less just because she has different views than him is disappointing. Trump will talk badly about anyone who says they don't like something Trump did, which is upsetting. I think Democrats will probably take one part of Congress, but it won't be a huge blowout.

    • Evan, this is true. I agree that Trump may have gone a little too far by making bad statements toward her music. Like I said, debates between people who have different views is something people have done for years. Although this is true, I do think that sometimes Trump needs to think more before he speaks. And as far as thinking Democrats will take over the senate, I disagree. I think that at this point, Republicans are strong enough to keep majority.

  • I think it's fine that he criticized her, but the way he does it seems so condescending and rude and unproffesional. This is one of my LEAST favorite things about him. An inability to use your filter as a person is a bad characteristic, in my opinion. Sometimes his bluntness is mistaken for honesty, I think he's just quick to criticize those who aren't like himself. I do agree, though, that republicans will keep their majority over the senate. Unless something changes within the democratic party, that's not gonna change anytime soon.`

    • I agree that sometimes he can get out of hand. Although would you rather have a president who is fake and baiscally JUST a politician. He is the first president that I remember, that has been completely honest with the people. Although we may disagree on this, I can agree that Republicans will keeop majority and that Democrats will have to make a change in order to sway.

  • Trump has criticized a lot of people since he came to office i dont think that he means anything by it i think that sometimes he just says stuff because he know he can. I dont really know as of right  now the only thing american citizens can do is vote.

    • As I stated before, Trump does criticize a lot of people but this is one of my favorite things about him. I love how he constantly speaks his mind and says what he thinks. I don't think that this is anything new, politicians always criticize each other, it is just part of it. Nobody can ever be sure how the midterm election will go, but I hope Republicans stay as majority.
