When children reach the tender age of 5, parents ask themselves 1 question. Do I send my child to a public or private school? The first school in the US was made in 1606, a private catholic school made by the Franciscan Order. In 1620, when pilgrims arrived, they started setting up schools in Plymouth. During the colonial time of the 17th century, there was little to no distinction between public and private schools. Public schooling came around in the early 19th century due to people wanting less religious focus on schooling. Catholic bishops pushed for the founding of Catholic schools around the country in return, making religion one of the main differences between public and private schools. With the main one being where the money comes from (public from the government, private from tuition)
Most people choose private schooling because the smaller class sizes allow for more one-on-one time. Teachers are less overwhelmed, better paid, and sometimes better qualified, causing them to have more patience and motivation to truly help students get past rough patches. They also have more funding for field trips and hands-on learning.
The people who choose private schooling usually do so because it has more people, allowing students to have a more divmerse social life. Public school is also cheaper than private schools and sometimes has more extracurricular activities and clubs for their child’s interests. Public schools are also required to follow a state curriculum, which isn’t required of private schools in every state.
I would want my child to go to private school for the first half of their elementary schooling like I did. This ensures that they have a thorough understanding of the basics that they’ll use every day in the future. Later, they can go to public school to expand their social skills and join extracurriculars and clubs.
Which do you wish you went to?
Which would you choose for your future kids?
What are some things that make one worse than the other that I didn't cover?

I agree that private school is a great starter for kids because of the better opportunities for one-on-one learning and a deeper understanding of the basics. I disagree that private schools in general have more restrictions, just more accountability.
I went to a private school until 5th grade. I would rather send my kids to a private school because there is more one on one time and teachers are less overwhelmed, if my kids went to a private school, they would probably interact more with others.
I agree that for more introverted kids, private school is definitely a way for them to feel less overwhelmed when putting themselves out there. That combined with the one-on-one time with teachers can make it a good choice for some.
Up until fifth grade I was homeschooled, then I started public school dual enrollment for four years, and then I started here at a public high school full-time. I wished I was private schooled from K-8 instead of homeschooled, but the area I lived in didn't have any good or affordable private schools. If I have kids then I'll probably end up sending them to full-time public school, but it all depends on where I live and the schools in the area.
I personally went to a private school until 7th grade. I think I would send my child to a private school until 4th or 5th grade. I think that the private school gives students a more one on one experience. I also think it is good to go to a public school so you can experience being social.
I wish that I went to a private school, I think it would be very beneficial for my grades and my overall well-being. I would be able to focus better without distractions. I would get more help with school-related things because most private schools have a smaller population. I would put my kids through public school because it's a good experience.
I agree that private school is good for one-on-one education because there are fewer kids to compete for the teacher's attention. This raises individual grades and understanding of the material that will benefit the child in the future.
I like going to public school, but I think I would learn more at a private school because it is more personalized. If I could choose, I would send my kids to private school becasue they would learn better values. I think the only bad thing about private school is that they are expensive.
I agree that private school is good for getting individual needs met and helps get more personalized learning. The cost can be a big factor to consider when choosing schools though, but it's also what helps the student body stay small to help students get that personalized learning.
I wish that I went to a private school. In my opinion, private schools normally have a better reputation for academic achievements. For my future kids, it would probably depend on how much I make because private schools can be expensive.
