Officer Peter Liang,28, was found guilty of manslaughter and official misconduct of the shooting of Akai Gurley,28. He was unarmed. With only 18 months on the job, officer Liang was on patrol in Brooklyn at a housing project, where he fired his gun. The bullet ricocheted off a wall and hit Akai Gurley in the chest. Gurley was rushed to the hospital, but later died. Officer Liang is sentenced up to 15 years in prison. Liang said that he was panicking, and was in shock, that someone was actually hit. People across the country are protesting against Liang's conviction seeing that this was a tragic accident.
Do you think that this was an accident? Why?
Do you think that his sentence was reasonable? Why?
I honestly do think that this was an accident that he shot Gurley, even though it was an accident I think 15 years is a good sentence for Liang.

Good job!
I think that it was an accident that he shot and that Gurley was hit because of ricochet. This sentence that he was given is acceptable because he still shot his gun and ended up killing someone.
I think it was an accident that Gurley was hit by a ricocheting bullet. 15 years in my opinion is good for one he is an officer of the law why was he just shooting his gun.
I agree that the 15 year sentence was appropriate for what accidentally killing Gurley.
I do think it was an accident, but what was he doing with his gun out? If no one was causing trouble, there is no reason too fire a gun. I would say that his sentence is reasonable, because he did kill someone innocent.
I agree with you on why did he even pull his gun if nothing was really no problem to draw his weapon.
I think that it was an accident for firing his gun and shooting Gurley but if that was even able to happen he should of had more training. And I think his sentence is very reasonable because he did take the life of another person.
I also think that it was an accident. Maybe he should have maybe been with a fellow officer, because he was still new at the job for only being there 18 months.
I do think that this was an accident on Liang's part, but he obviously needed more training or courses if he went into a state of shock like he did and fired his gun in a situation like that to begin with. I think that his sentence is reasonable because he did take a life and justice does need to be served.
I'm assuming that he accidentally shot the gun if it ricocheted off the wall and then hit him. I think his sentence is reasonable because he still killed someone, and he needs to learn to be a little more careful with his gun.
