A rare shark was caught off the coast of Portugal back in August. The news of the shark is just now becoming popular and relevant though.
The shark was caught at a depth of 700 meters, but it is known to live at much greater depths that's why we know so little about them. Scientists say that the shark looks the same as it did during the Cretaceous Period. That began 145 million years ago and ended 66 million years ago. The Cretaceous Period was when the T-Rex lived!
It's called the Frilled Shark and it eats squid, fish and other sharks whole. That is why the shark has over 300 hooked teeth, similar to velcro.
How would you react if you came across this while fishing or swimming?
I'd be really freaked out but even more freaked out if I was swimming rather than fishing, because when you swim you don't have the control the fish does rather than when you're swimming the fish is in control.
The Frilled Shark is classified as "Near Threatened", do you think that we should start a program or anything to ensure the protection of these ancient animals or try and populate them more?
I think that with any animal it is important to try and keep their species alive and thriving for that matter. But I don't think that them being prehistoric should be a reason to make them a priority over other animals.

Abi,
Good job on your summary but you only commented three times. That part of the grade is worth 20 points. -5 late
if I was swimming and I find that monster I would probably run, but in the water I could not... So I would stay without moving wrapped in panic I would not move, but those big animals are not on the surface, where it's swimming area, and I would not go to such a deep place to swim. And if I was fishing ..... I do not like to fish. So there would be no reason to be there.
yes, if I think that there should be a program for these animals, to prevent the extinction of that animal, and to make it reproduce. That fish is a new creation, it would be interesting to know more about him, and his age.
If I came across this while fishing or swimming I would be very scared to see it. If I was swimming I would try to get out of the water as soon as possible. If I was fishing I would pull my rod out of the water and boat away. I think that we could try to keep this species alive to have for the future. I wouldn't try to mass produce them too much because they might make other species go extinct.
I would be scared because it can do worse damage than any other shark and most people aren't strong enough to get away. I think we should because they have a right to be here just like any other living species.
I would be really scared and probably grossed out a little. If I was fishing, it wouldn't bother me as much, but if it came close to me that would be a whole different story. don't think that there is much that we can do to save them now. I think it would be a good idea, but I don't think that they should be the priority.
If I was fishing or swimming I would freak out at any shark that came close to me. Nobody ever hears much about this species so I don't think it's a huge deal if we start a program to ensure protection.
If I was swimming or fishing no matter what kind of shark it is of course I would be afraid and try to get away. Sharks are known for being dangerous sea creatures. But with how deep this one swims it is very unlikely you would ever see it. But with all animals you should try and preserve ad protect them so organizations and stuff would never hurt to be put in place.
1. I would be really scared. If I was fishing I would throw it back into the water and get away as fast I could. If I was swimming I would be completely terrified because you would be in the same water as this creature. I would just try to get out of the water as fast as I could.
2. I'm not sure I would try super hard to keep these alive. They don't seem to be doing anything good for the world, and seem harmful to humans.
I would be pretty freaked out, i mean it looks like a monster out of a horror movie. I would probably try to get as far away from the water as possible.
I do think we should try to save these animals if possible because it is always better to be able to show kids a live version of the animals rather than drawings or pictures like we see of extinct creatures.
1. I would be terrified because I am swimming and I come across a shark when they are known to hurt and harm people.
2. I think if there is any animal that is endangered, older, or prehistoric I feel like they should be put into a program so that they can be protected.
