Poverty across the world

One thing in the world that stands out the most is poverty so i'm going to inform you about poverty. Poverty is a state of deprivation in which people or communities lack access to basic necessities to live a healthy life. Living in poverty means not being able to afford medical care or access to basics such as electricity, shelter, and food. The 6 main problems about poverty are hunger, limited access to education, and other basic services, social discrimination, and being excluded.

You're probably thinking why are so many countries in poverty. Some of the main reasons are poor management of resources, bad government systems, and being undereducated. Some ways we could lower the poverty rate is educate children, ensure basic health care, and provide clean water. South Sudan has a poverty rate of 76.40% which is not the highest in the world. The poorest country in the world is Burundi.

Another problem is child poverty. Some of the disadvantages of child poverty are bad family structure and economic hardship. Children mostly affected by feeling less valued or loved, they often have lower self esteem. And less self confidence. The largest impact of child poverty is being born into family poverty. We can solve child poverty by creating jobs for unemployed and underemployed individuals ages 16-64 in families with children, increase the minimum wage from $7.25 to $15.00 in by 2024, and increase the Earned Income Tax Credit for lower income families with children.

The U.S. has a poverty rate of 11.6% with 37.9 million people in poverty, which has risen 4.6% more than 2021. During covid in 2021 5.6% children lived in poverty. The main reason poverty is rising in America is because of the post pandemic expiration of an expanded child tax credit. The poorest state in the U.S is Mississippi with a poverty rate of 19.58%. New Hampshire has the lowest poverty rate of 7.42%.

Poverty also can cause sickness, in 2019 roughly 183,000 deaths associated with poverty in the U.S. among people 15 or older. Some of the leading causes of death are heart disease, cancer and smoking were the only causes with greater mortality

Do you think countries should focus more on poverty reduction and why?

What do you think America could do to reduce poverty?

Do you think they should or shouldn’t give free education to children that live in poverty and why?

  • Glad you got this posted Alex! It was posted very late and you didn't reply to any student comments.

  • I personally think that poverty is a major problem worldwide, and that all countries should put more of their time, attention, and money onto this issue. If we don't start to focus more on this problem, the povery and homeless rates will skyrocket. I feel like having free education up until 12th grade is very important, and would help this problem.

  • I definitely think that countries should start focusing on poverty more because it will help the country a lot. There are so many different things that leads to poverty and there is no way to fix every single one in a short time, but if we start working at it now it would make a huge difference in the future. I think we should try to help those in poverty as much as we possibly can.

  • I think that countries should focus on getting rid of poverty if they want to improve. The best ways to do that would be to make education and good paying jobs more accessible to everybody. That means making more schools/jobs and making school free at least up to 12th grade.

  • I feel like poverty may be one current world issue that many people overlook. I definetly think that poverty should be focused on more. It's sad to thik about those dealing with poverty because some may not even be able to afford their kid to get and education or even a decent meal. So yes, I think poverty should be focused on and that their could be some solutions to help.

  • I think that they should focus on poverty because it will benifit our country and people could focus on their education rather than needing to figure out how to survive.

  • i think countrys should focous on poverty. it would benifit the countrys a lot if they had solutions to poverty. they would be less crime, i say this because of of the crimes commited in the U.S. are in place of high poverty. giving these people the right education would also help them get a job that would actully benfit them. but the government in sertant places will refuse to help fix the issues of the poor and focuse on the issues of the rich instead.

  • I think that if countries started focusing on poverty more, then people would have better quality of life. But, poverty isn't something you can fix overnight. It would take a ton of work getting people out of their generational poverty, and would cost a ton of money.

  • I think that countries need to focus more on poverty because it will greatly benefit the country as a whole. I think countries should help these families and individuals by finding new jobs for them to work at. I also think that people that are in poverty need to try harder to get a job. There are many job openings everywhere that you go, many stores can't be open for the whole day because people are choosing not to work there. It is not just the country/governments fault, it is also the people that are living in poverty.

  • Poverty is so unfortunante I wish there wasnt so much of it going on. I wish we could provide more free services for those in need. I think it would make a huge diffrence if more things could be covered for those in need. I think if we made it cheaper to get schooling it would be so much easier to get a good education.
