Today in Rome, Pope Benedict XVI shocked the world by announcing that he'll be resigning at the end of the month due to old age.
"Strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me," -Pope Benedict.
This is the first time a pope has resigned in nearly 600 years! While Catholics world wide remain shocked, they're working on finding a new pope and will have a new one before Easter. I'm not catholic but I know a lot of people are. What are your thoughts on this? Go here for more on this topic.

I never thought of this happening. I wonder what the pope will do when he is retired.
I think it's good that he took the initiative to resign when he realized he could no longer make the big decisions of the pope. I am catholic and it really doesn't shock me that much. Things change everyday, traditions are broken. I'd say it is better that he resigned and they can look for a new pope instead of him holding the position of pope until he dies. The weeks he would be on his death bed would just be a longer amount of time before they could find a replacement. Though it is sad that he doesn't have much longer :(
This is really something!! its the first time in a while this has happened and nobody knows whats supposed to happen to him after he resigns either
I am glad that he is deciding to live the rest of his life without any stress of being pope. It must be really burdening to have all that power, and have to make a lot of descisions
Sad story, but at least he is wise enough to know when his time is up! Always a sign of a good leader. I'm sure that the College of Cardinals will make a good decision when they pick the next leader of the Catholic Religion.
I hope that the new Pope the Cardinals elect will be a good leader for all the Catholics. I believe that our world now is more stress full for the higher ups. I can understand Pope Benedict's choice and hope that the Cardinals can get through this new challenge that they have not faced in 600 years.
I was shocked when I heard about this. I guess it's better that he did something about it than taking on more than he could handle.
I am a Catholic! I mean he is old, and he did a great job while he was Pope! I think it's for the best for the Catholic church to get someone knew!
Im not catholic but i know the pope is a big deal. i hope they find a new one before easter, and im sure they do. i wonder what the qualifications are to become the pope.
You aren't even catholic...hahaha! It is very sad! Even though he hasn't been in for very long, he did a great job. When will the next person be elected?
