On Tuesday, it was announced that in 3 months, most restaurants in New York City serving sugar-sweetened drinks in glasses over 16 ounces, will be fined. Should the state have this much power over what we consume?

I don't think that's a good idea because why should they get to chose what we eat and drink? Plus everyone drinks pop.
I don't think the state should be able to do this. People have the right to eat and drink what they want. This law doesn't really make sense, because people can just buy another pop at the restaurant or go buy pop at the store.
I think that this is unnecessary and won't really help at all. I appreciate that the government is trying to solve the obesity problems in the US they can't do anything without violating freedom. Not being healthy is a lifestyle choice and the widespread following of that lifestyle is a cultural problem that the government shouldn't be trying to fix.
It would be nice if people didn't get such large serving of pop, but people have the right to order what they want. It might help with obesity, but I think it will cause more problems than it solves.
If they're trying to make a healthier nation, that's just stupid. People will find ways to reverse this ban-they will just replace pop with other things, and then this won't solve anything.
I think that this is a violation of rights, honestly. Since when does the government get to tell people how much they can drink. In the words of Mrs. Lansman "This is America I will get fat and rot my teeth if I want to" haha :)
This is dumb i think. We should be able to choose what we drink, we shouldnt be limited on our choices either.
I think that it could be good for the people out there. But also i don't think they need to get to extreme. I mean it is just pop. It should be our choice if we want to drink it or not, not the states.
Like Mrs. Lansman said, "If I want to get fat and rot my teeth, it's my choice!" I don't think the government should be able to make laws like this.
I agree with Andrew. The fact that our country has said they want to do something about America's heatlth for the past how many years and they are following through with their actions is something that should be looked upon positively. But, I don't think sugary drinks are the way to go, in my opinion it's all the greased and deep fried food. At least it's a start.
