Police Seized $32,100 Illigally

A man in Kansas was pulled over and had $32,100 on him, the reason why he had this much money was to buy a new truck. On his way home he was stopped for not having a front listens plate on the front of his car, which is legal in Kansas to not have one, when he was pulled over the state patrol illegally searched his car when the K-9 alerted to the back seat of the car after putting them in hand cuffs. The officer said that it was drug money and the dog alerted to marijuana and Franco’s girlfriend had pictures of her phone of marijuana. In the end the officers violated Franco and his girlfriend’s right by taking the money, searching their car, and seizing the money.

What would you have done after he told you he was going to seize the money?

What would you have done if they said to search your car?

I would have told him to get his supervisor to come down and see what he says.

I would have asked to see the search warrant.

  • Be sure to comment on three different days. Good overall!

  • You can't do anything except just try to refuse. If he wants to search it, he will and he can get in trouble for it later. If he was trying to take my money from me, I would be quite upset and try to explain why I had it.

  • I would let him search my car because I would have nothing to hide. So I would've let the officer search my car and see I had nothing.

  • I would of asked him to get a warrant first. It is my right to deny him until he shows a proper reason to search my car.

  • I don't really think that there was anything wrong with doing what the officer did. If the dog could smell drugs on the money then I don't understand what was so bad about the money being taken from him. I do think he shouldn't have been pulled over in the first place, but he was more than likely still guilty of being involved with drugs.

  • I would not want someone looking through my car really, and I would ask them to get a warrant.

  • I would have been mad if they took my money. I would have explained that I just took out the $ to buy a new vehicle and he could follow me to where I was picking up my new vehicle.  If there was no reason for him to search the car, than he shouldn't be doing it. However, it shouldn't really matter since I wouldn't have had anything to hide.

  • I would have asked the cop if he had a warrant to search the car and take the money. If the dogs smelled marijuana in the car, than the guy's obviously not clean, but he still had the right to a fair trial, and that still doesn't make it legal that the police searched the car in the first place.

  • I would honestly probably be visibly and maybe a little vocally upset, but I would not start a huge fight that could get me in trouble. If they had a valid reason and a search warrant to search my car, then I would not have a problem with them searching.

  • I would be mad if the police did something illegal, but it sounds like he had a dog with him that reacted to the smell of marijuana. If the cop did violate the Fourth Amendment which protects citizens from unreasonable search and seizures, then I would file a lawsuit.
