A police officer of Pennsylvania will not be faced with charges because of his "honest and mistaken he was deploying his taser at the time he discharged his service weapon" according to the district attorney Matthew Weintraub. The officer wounded the man named Brian Wiling by shooting him in the stomach. The police officer's name was not stated because he was not charged. The officer was put on administrative leave. The video shows Rilling dropping a bag of drugs in front of the police officer and trying to hide it by putting it in the toilet. The video later on shows Riling being pushed down on a bench and resisting the officers. Which then leads to the officer saying "Taser!" and shoots him in the stomach. After this, the officers left for a hot second and came back. During the time the officers left, Riling was able to put the baggie in the toilet and get rid of it. According to the DA the "officer violated a department policy by wearing the Taser on his right side, in front of his firearm, instead of on the non-dominant side, in what is known as a cross-draw position." The policy violation did not violate the law so therefore, he was not charged. Currently, workers for the police station are going through an investigation.

  • I would probably stand in shock for a moment and maybe yell for someone. I feel like he pulled the gun out in a way of self defense so i would say he most likely did it on purpose, but it also could of been an accident as he might have not been thinking as he was trying to hold down the inmate.

  • It would definetly be alarming seeing an unarmed inmate get shot by a police officer. I don't see how the officer could have pulled out the wrong gun and why would he shoot an inmate on purpose. I do not think this is the inmates fault because he was unarmed and not a harm to anyone.

  • I would have been totally freaked out and would've tried to run in the opposite sound of the gunshot. The police officer could've tazed him or got him detained but he didn't need to go as far as shooting the guy so I think it was on purpose.

  • If I was in the situation I would be very shocked at first but also try getting out of the way so I wouldn't be at risk of getting shot also.

  • If I was there when I heard that gun shot I probably would have freaked out. I would have went to see what was going on. I would have helped the guy that got shot with the gun. I don't know if I would talk to the police officer at all.

  • I'm not sure what I would've done if the inmate would've got shot while I was their,  I would've been happy that the inmate was detained, but I don't think that things should've escalated to him getting shot. I do think that the officer was dumb to put his tazer and his gun on the same side because he could have definetly pulled the gun on accident.

  • If I was there and saw the inmate get shot I would go get someone for help or try to stay out of the way so I did not also get shot. I think the officer was probably scared the inmate was going to hurt him and his instincts took over and he grabbed his gun.

  • I would be very upset if they got shot. The officer should've known better for this not to happen. These stories continue to be in the news. Cops need to be on their job and do it well. Because how many times are you going to kill an innocent life? He might have done it on accident, but really we will never know.

  • I would feel really bad because I just witnessed it. I think he pulled it out because that is his natural instinct. If Riling tried to hit him or anything I would understand why he took out his taser.
