A police bodycam was released January 25, 2019, showing the shooting of a student's parent by an officer outside of Cascade Middle School in Eugene, Oregon. The shooting occured on January 11 when Charles Landeros came to the school for a meeting. The school had learned that Landeros's ex-wife was upset that Landeros had enrolled their son into the middle school. The school learned about the custody dispute, so they called in extra police officers to assist. The officers told Landeros to leave the building, but he stated that they did not have jurisdiction and that the principal did not ask him to leave. The video shows the officers trying to push Landeros out the door and then they announced that they were going to arrest Landeros. When the officers tried to arrest Landeros, Landeros resisted and pulled out a handgun and shot twice at one of the officers. The officer, Officer Timm, was able to dodge the bullet, as the bullet missed by mere inches. Because Landerous shot a gun at Officer Timm, Timm pulled his gun out and shot Landeros in the head. After the shooting, they found Landeros had an extra magazine with ammunition on his belt, another in his car, and Landeros's backpack contained extra ammunition. Later, the DA ruled, “Officer Timm saved the life of Officer Johns, himself and perhaps many others. There is no clearer circumstance that the use of deadly force is justified than this.”
Do you think the police made the right choice to arrest Landeros? Why?
I think the ariticle did not give enough information as to why they were making him leave the school. However, once the officer told him to leave and he refused, they had the right to arrest him for disobeying police orders.
Do you think the shooting of Landeros was a justified shooting? Why?
I think it was justified because he was fighting with the officer and took a shot at the other officer. Once he pulled the gun, I think the officers had a right to protect themselves. It was a good thing that they did because it prevented him from hurting any other innocent people.

Good job overall but you should have replied to some yesterday as you have a couple of pages of comments with no replies from you.
Yes, I do think that police made a right choice because Landeros refused to leave even when they ask him to, so it was the only way to make him get out of there. Also, I do think that it was justified because he was in a fight with the police, and he brought a gun with ammunition to the school; who knows what he was planning to do.
Yes I think that the officers did the right thing to arrest him for disobeying the cops orders because the cop kept saying that he was going to arrest them so he kept saying it over and over againl. I do think it is justifed because it was a unessesary firing and the person had engangered both of them.
I do think it was right of the officers to arrest Landeros because he was not listening to them when they asked him to leave. I also think that the shooting of Landeros was very justified because he had shot twice at an officer although he missed. Later it was found that he had lots of hidden ammunition in his pants, backpack, and car, meaning he could've even possibly shot up the school if he got angered enough.
I think that they made the right choice because he had been asked to leave the premises more than once and he had been causing some trouble. I think it was justified because he had pulled a gun on the officers and had endangered anyone else there. Seeing that he had a lot of extra ammo it is possible he wanted to pull his gun at some point.
If they would have said what he was doing before the video started but I dont think they should have taken him out of the school like that because he just wanted to see his daughter, but maybe they had good reason to take him out like that. Well both had the guns out due to self defence but theres a lot of stoires about police shooting people and getting away with it, so I dont really know.
I think that they had every right to arrest the man. They gave him a chance to leave peacefully and he declined and in doing this earned the right to be arrested for failing to comply with an officer of the law. If I have ever heard of a justified shooting this would be it. The fact that the man brought a weapon and ammuniton to the school makes it clear he most likely have peaceful intentions in the first place.
Yes I think the police made a good choice telling Landeros to leave the school because they probably didn't feel comfortable with him at the school. I think it was justified because Landeros started shooting at the police officers and the officers had to protect themselve sho they shot back to that no innocent people got hurt.
I do think that the police officers made the right choice trying to arrest him because he didn't obey their orders after already trying to exclude him from the building, yes I wish they would have put more information on why they were makig him leave but I think they did the right thing. In the situation yes I do think they had the right to protect themselves because he did fire first, but I think they probably could have diffused the situation better. Why didn't they pat him down while they were pushing him out the door?
In my opinion, I do think the police made the right choice to want to arrest him. He was disobeying and not listening to the officers demands which should result in an arrest. I think the officers definitely thought something was off about him which was why they were able to react and decide what needed to be done. I do also think that the shooting of Landeros was a justified shooting because he did shoot at an officer and by them shooting him they were able to save themselves as well as possibly many others.
