Poisonous toads infesting Florida.

Toad Busters(a Pest control person) told WPTV that due to recent rains coupled with warm temperatures sent the frogs into a breeding cycle. Resulting in thousands of Poisonous toads infesting Florida. Experts say the amphibians are bufo toads, are also known as cane toads. Cane toads are reportedly clogging pool filters, and hopping in large masses across driveways and sidewalks. The average size of an adult is 10-15cm long but females have been recorded growing up to and over 23cm. Cane Toads have poison glands on each shoulder where poison is released when they are threatened. If ingested, this venom can cause rapid heartbeat, excessive salivation, convulsions and paralysis and can result in death for many animals.

If you lived in Florida how would you deal with this? How would you keep the toads out of your home/yard and away from your family?

If it were me, I would make sure that I keep all doors shut all the time and make sure that they don't have a way into my home, then try to eliminate their food source. I would also call a pest control specialist and ask if there are any traps that I could use.

If you have pets how would you make sure they dont come incontact with the toads.

I have a dog and well dogs need to fo outside to do their doo, I would let her out and watch her to make sure shes not doing anything weird. I wouldnt take her on walks just to be safe.

  • I would make sure to have my doors shut all the time and maybe put towels or ragsin places I think they could come in through to my house. I would monitor my yard when my dogs are going potty, but when their not I would put them in a room where the toads couldn't reach them.

  • I agree, I would most likely keep all doors shut. I would take my pets to a fenced in area if they need to go outside. I would also look for a place where the toads are not found to take them.

  • If I were in this situation, I would do what I can to keep them away. Probably keep doors closed so that they can't get in. I would keep them inside mostly unless they needed to go outside for the bathroom. If my pets had to go outside for the bathroom, I would do my best to watch for the toads and keep my pet away from them.

  • 1. I would make sure that my house was closed up and that nothing would get in. If I was an adult, I would make sure these things would not threaten my children.

    2. If I had my dog, I would go outside with him and let him do his thing and put him right back inside because I would not want these things to harm him.

  • If I was living in Flordia at this time I would try to find some spray and go around my house and yard, also I would keep all my doors and windows closed at all times until I knew it was save. If I had to take my dog out I would watch them closely and make sure nothing is happening and that would be the only time I would take them out.

  • If I lived in Florida during this time, I would probably try to find some sort of spray or something that would keep the frogs away so my animals and people around wouldn't be hurt. If I had pets, I would keep them in a cage or in the house until the frogs had left for good.

  • If I lived in Florida, I would try and see if there are any repellant that I could use. I would also try and take extra caution and make sure everyone in my home knew what they looked like and to avoid them. I would probably make sure to keep an eye on the dog when taking it on walks.

  • 1) I am not really sure. I would first try to find some sort of spray or trap to get rid of the toads. I think that there really isn't much to do other than focus on keeping them out of your house.

    2) I have a dog and a cat. I would just do my best to keep them away from my cat, and also keep them away from my dog when I let her go outside. I would try to keep both pets safe.

  • 2 - If I was living in Flordia and I had a pet or multiple pets, I would most likely try to a, keep them inside as much, b, get some sort of spray or something that would kill these toads. I would also probably call an exterminator to try and clean up the messes they leave behind for pools and such.
