Podcasting 101

What is a podcast?

A podcast is an audio or video file that individuals or small groups of people create which are then distributed over the Internet for playback on portable media players and computers.

Items needed to make a podcast:

1. A recording device--computer, iPad, iPod Touch(4th Gen), cell phones, etc.

2. computer microphone to record your voice if needed.

3. computer program such as Garageband(Mac), Audacity(PC), Audioboo.com(online/iPhone app)

4. At least one voice!!

5. A video camera or webcam could also be used for a podcast.

Steps to making a podcast:

1. Plan your podcast

* Choose a quiet area where there will be no distractions.
* Have a basic outline for what you want to talk about.

* Try not to read from a piece of paper. Make it real!

2. Produce your podcast

* Hit record and start talking!
* You can pause to take a break if needed.
* When done, hit stop.

* You can edit your podcast using the program you are using. For
example, you can import other audio files to add to your podcast.
Many podcasts have opening theme music.
* Be sure to save your file as an mp3 file when finished.

3. Publish your podcast
* You must now upload your mp3 file to a website that will host your
files. I suggest Podbean.com.

4. Find the embed code on the Podbean website and embed it into your blog.
