Player was not allowed to play football because of his religion

Davion Taylor is a inspiration to his religion and how he ended up being a football star. Davion only played one high school football game in his high school career, it wasn't because of a injury, but of the religion he was apart of.  His religion has The Sabbath for Seventh Day Adventists which is where the people are to stay away from any activity or work from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday. With high school games being on Friday nights Davion's mother would not let him even go to the games. Davion got his shot in late August where the sunset at 8:30 pm, his mother let him play the whole game and did and outstanding job and showed the town how good of an athlete he truly was. After that season Davion went to community college at Southwest Mississppi Community College where he went to play outside linebacker. Davion only started three games of that season despite his inexperience at the new postion he was taught. Assistant coach from Colorado recruited Taylor and Davion got a scholorship his freshman year to play for Colorado.

If you were Davion would you follow the rules or would you disobey your mother and religion and go play on Friday nights?

I would disobey the rules and go play if football meant that much to me to like it did to Davion.

Do you think Davion's mother was in the right or wrong for forbidding her son to play the game he loves?

I think shes in the wrong because football is waht makes Davion happy and she kept him from playomg the game.

  • Good topic choice and summary! You only commented three times and with four pages shuld have about twelve replies.

  • I'm not sure what I would do if I was in his shoes. If I had the talent, it would be hard to say no to football. If I was more into the religious side, I would have to say no to football. I think she was in the wrong.

  • I would disobey the rules of the religion cause if he likes to football that much, so he should play every Friday night. I think his mother is wrong if he likes to play football so much, and he wants to play alot of football and he wants to have fun when playing football.

  • If his religion requires to not do anything, then that's what he should probably do. If I were him I wouldn't disobey my parents or my religion, but I can understand how it could've been hard because it can be hard to not be able to play the sport you love.

This could go both ways, because yes, she was right by telling him he shouldn't because of their religion. I could say she was in the wrong, too, because Davion loved to play football and was really good at it.

  • 1.) I would obey becaue disobeying your parents and relegion is wrong. 2.) I don't really know if it was right or wrong for forbidding her son to play the game he loves because I don't really know their religion.

  • I think if football really meant that much to someone then they would disobey their mothers and religion and hope they would realize that what their doing is something they love. I think that his mother was wrong. I dont think she should take something he cares about and loves away.

  • i would go when i could so yes i would disobay my mother and religion to play the sport that i like to play i think that is her choice but if he wants to play let him if i had a son that couldnt play because his mom i would let him play

  • I would disobey the rules and play if i was as good as he is. I think she was right and wrong because its their religion but then again he has the right to choose if he wants to believe that religion or not.

  • I would likely disobey the rules depending on whether or not I believed in the religion. I think Davion's mother should have allowed it, considering that people should have the right to choose what religion they believe as shown by the first amendment.

    • I agree with you, he didn't have to follow the rules because of what his mom believed in but he did anyway he could have chosen to disobey his mom and not follow the religions rules if that not what he believes in
