The Franciscan manzanita, a coastal plant thought to be extinct since 1946, was found near a highway after a construction project removed the plants that were hiding it.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service plans to designate it as an endangered species.
I think this sounds interesting, maybe next century these will be in our gardens.

That is cool that they havent seen this plant since 1946, and I think that since there is one, there has to be more out there.
I think that is really neat! I hope that the plant stays around. It looks really pretty. :) I hope i see that in my backyard sooner or later. :)
That's quite an amazing discovery. Finding something that was thought to be extinct would be awesome. I bet the construction workers are proud. I'm surprised that they even knew that this plant was supposed to be extinct.
This is so neat! it just makes you wonder when your walking out side which plants are which, because you never know u might find an extinct species!
What a strange place to find this plant. I hope that the people who have the plant know what their doing and someday these plants will just be a normal everyday plant that you see.
Interesting that they would find it after all these years. I wonder what happened to it, and why they couldn't find it earlier. To me, it looks like a plant we have in our backyard, but it isn't.
They should start breeding them if they are endangered, or grow them in a controled enviorment so it isnt endangered anymore.
thats awesome they should make sure that that plant stays around. how do you know if a plant is extinct or not that confuses me
it's probably based off of how many have been seen in areas... it must not be 100% accurate because of things like this though
I think that is awesome! The people who found it probably felt good, because that will affect the world forever if they multiply.
