Plane Skids Off Runway

A Delta airplane almost ended up in a river at New Yorks LaGuardia Airport Thursday morning. The plane slid across the runway for quite a while, and it ended up breaking down the fence at the end of the runway. The pilot was able to get it under control before it slid into the icy river on the other side of the fence. The plane was carrying 127 passengers and five crew members, and all of them are okay. Only 24 suffered non life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospitals. Many of the passengers on the plane were scared, but some were also calm because nothing came out of the accident except a few injuries. Air travel at the airport has been shut down temporarily, and nobody is able to leave or enter the airport until 7 P.M. eastern time. If I was on this flight I would be more scared for my belongings if everyone was okay because stuff could have slid around and broken.

What would have been your reaction if you felt the plane sliding on the runway?

Would you have remained calm or been one of the frantic passengers?

  • Well done!

  • I would keep calm but DEFINITELY address the situation. I would remain calm, maybe have a tint of frantic in my voice, but I would definitely not try to alarm the other passengers by putting out a message that sounds like it brings death or serious injury.

  • I would have started freaking out. I hate airplanes and if it started sliding all over the place I would probably have a panic attack. I would have most definitely been one of the frantic passengers.

  • If I was on this plane I would not be as concerned about my belongings. The first thing I would be concerned about it check if everyone was okay and when everyone would leave, then I would try to gather up my stuff. I would of tried to remained calm, but obviously be some what scared.

  • I've been to that airport before and if that would have happened to me, I would be pretty scared considering how close the water is to the runway. I would have tried to remain calm the best I could but I would still be pretty scared.

  • I would of course be scared if I'm in a plane that is skidding towards the ice and could potentially die but I would probably just keep my seatbelt on and hold on for dear life. I wouldn't be too scared for my luggage, I would have been more scared for the things like carts that would be sliding freely that would just be able to hit people randomly.

    • I never thought of the injuries that objects inside the plane could cause. That would be scary with stuff rolling around inside the plane. I would think if it rolled into the river that they would be able to get people out fairly quickly.

  • If the plane hadn't even gotten off of the ground, I wouldn't be panicking. Even if the plane had slipped into the river, help would have arrived it time for no one to get hurt, and people could evacuate once the plane came to a stop.

    • Yea. Our response time would most likely be good enough to save everyone if it had gone into the river.

  • I would be sacred. When you're on a landing plane that's already freaky enough. I couldn't imagine being on a plane that's sliding down the runway. I would probably be one that's freaking out. I don't think id be screaming though.
