On September 22nd, John Pederson experienced something he will never forget. His Coyote II 2 seater planes tail part broke, and forced him to either land, or plummet 2000 feet. He quickly found a place to land, which happened to be the busy Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. When he landed, officers were the quickly ready to push his plane off of the busy road and get traffic moving again. John said that he was taught in pilots school what to do when you no longer have your engine. He later called his wife and told her where he would need to be picked up. She said she would not ride with him and laughed at his situation but was glad to see him ok. I think it is good that they teach you what to do when the worst happens. Do you think pilot schools should take more time teaching students what could happen and how to handle it?

Good summary but again, reply more frequently.
This guy is a pretty good pilot, I'm just glad that he didn't get hurt or nobody got injured
Well I'm sure now a days these schools train their pilots for any and every situation. Which is a good thing. Just think of the damage and death that could have happened if this pilot wasn't well trained. These pilot schools are doing a good job and keep training for every situation.
I honestly think a lot of this is just plain intuition. You need to be taught how to fly and land a plane, and then you should know a lot of how to handle bad situations. Basically tell them that if you have any issues, find a place to land. I think that should be enough.
I think that this would be a super scary thing to watch happen. I do think that pilot schools should take more time teaching, but I also think they should look over the people they hire a little better. I don't think that somebody who truly knew what they were doing would have done something like this. I guess if it was an accident then you can't really stop that from happening.. but he should have been a little more careful.
That's good that he was able to land safely on Lake Shore Drive. Flight schools should come up with scenarios and teach the safe way to handle them. Although no one can teach instincts and sometimes fear takes over and you can't do anything.
I'm pretty sure that pilots have to go through that kind of training to become a pilot in the first place. It's good that he wasn't in the middle of nowhere with nowhere to land like over one of the great lakes. It's funny that his wife laughed at him when he told her what happened.
Haha. That's funny, at least he didn't land in buildings or like parks and killed people. It's funny how was laughing about the whole thing.
I'm glad that this man was able to think back to his training and successfully land. I think that pilot schools should teach the pilots for the worst possible scenario and this is a good example of why they should do that.
It is a good thing that he knew what to do because maybe a lot of others could have died too. I have a lot of respect for him to stay calm and do something like that.
