Pineapple on Pizza?

Do you eat pineapple on pizza?  Let's dig in to know the statistics and history of it

Despite being called the Hawaiian pizza it is actually first created in Canada in 1962. Sam Panopoulos, the creator of the pizza, thought to add canned pineapple to his pizza, not knowing that it would become a huge success. Why did it become a success? Well, no one really knows for sure, but they think that it reminded people of the tiki craze that happened in 1959. The name Hawaiian come into play when Sam Panopoulos saw on the can that it said Hawaiian.

82% of people surveyed by YouGov said that they actually like pineapple on pizza, while 29% said that they hated the idea. 53% liked the idea of fruit being on pizza in general, and 12% said that they disliked it.  Another Survey said given by Slice, 54% of people didn't like the idea of pineapple being on pizza, While 46% thought it was a good idea. At least the idea of pineapple being on Pizza was more acceptable than strawberries!

You may be wondering, why do people like pineapple on pizza, and a way that it could be considered " acceptable". One reason is the sweet and saltiness balance. The sweetness of the pineapple and the saltiness of the ham, sauce, and cheese balance each other out. On the flip side, some people say that it is just too juicy and they don't like the sweetness with the pizza.

Personally, I really like Pineapple on pizza and so does my sister, but my brother, on the other hand, hates the texture. Whatever you pick, that is up to you and that is your preference.

    • Bacon on pizza is really good! Thank you for the compliment! I agree, I think that it is a great combo too! Would you ever try strawberries on pizza? I mean, personally, I think with the right sauce that it would taste fine.

      • You're very welcome! And yes, I'm actually quite curious of how that would taste... Like you mentioned, if it has the right sauce it should probably be pretty good.

  • I haven't ever tried putting pineapple on my pizza but I’m not sure I would like it. I am a texter person and I feel that I wouldn’t like the texture of the pineapple with the rest of the pizza. I feel that pineapple and pepperoni just don’t belong on a pizza together. My personal favorite pizza topping is either just pepperoni or pepperoni with peppers.

    • Most of the people that have commented are also saying pepperoni, but I have never had a pizza with peppers. I should add that on my list to try.

  • I do not prefer having pineapple on my pizza. That goes for any other fruit (other than tomatoes). My favorite topping are pepperonies.

    • Most people don't prefer it, but I do, personally, I like the sweet flavor of it, but everyone has there own opinion and that's ok.

  • I can't say whether or not I like pinnapple on pizza because I have refused to try it over the years.  I don't think pinapple belongs on pizza because I don't think anything sweet should be on pizza.  My favorite pizza topping is peperoni but I also really like mac and cheese pizza.

    • I have never had mac and cheese pizza, and I don't know if I will try it. I feel that the noodles would become soggy, but I like breakfast pizza so maybe I would like it?

  • I personally do not think pineapple should be on pizza, as anyone that likes it should be charged with treason against their country. I prefer pepperoni or beef (beef with mushrooms especially) on my pizza.

    • Woah, that's a little far, but that's ok because we all have our own opinions. I mean, we could turn it around. I personally don't like mushrooms on my pizza, I find them gross. So, we could say that anyone that likes mushrooms on their pizza could be charged with treason against their country. All of a sudden, now that tables have turned it doesn't seem to be the same thing, it's unconstitutional, because of freedom of speech, and it just seems a little far.  The world doesn't revolve around you or anyone for that matter, therefore you can't force anyone else to feel the same thing as you feel, for example, charging them with treason just because of an opinion that you, nor anyone else could control because we are all our own people with different tastes and preferences
