The Pentagon has recently selected the Boeing 747-8 to be the new Air Force One plane. They chose this plane because it is one of the largest that is made by Boeing and is made in the U.S. When it is fully missionized it will meet all the requirements needed to be the presidents plane. The plane itself is a rarity, the production of them is down to only 1.5 planes per month. The two current Air Force Ones will end their 30 year service in 2017. The Air force has set aside 1.65 billion dollars for the new planes.
Do you think that the air force has put aside to much money for this? Why?
Why do you think they announced they are getting new planes but are not using them for another 2 years?

I do think the Air Force has set aside too much money, just update current plane instead of keep putting the country in more debt. I think they informed the public about it two ahead so we know what our tax dollars are being used for
The planes are probably needing updates but that seems like a lot of money for 2 planes.
I cant believe its been 30 years that seems like a long time. And yes there has probably been a fund they were putting money in for this plane.

The Air Force has probably put beside the right amount of money for the planes, because 1.65 billion sounds like enough to build aircraft of this efficiency and sophistication. Because they wanted the United States to look forward to something POSITIVE for once, maybe? Give the president something to look forward to, the government, the citizens, who knows! The government is full of crazy ideas nowadays.
I think that it is the right amount of money also, it is the presidents planes so it is going to cost a lot.
I think is a lot of money, so hopefully they put the plane to good use. I think they announced it early to let people know how much money they are spending.
