  • THis is an amazing story. Thirty eight years of doing such a public job and making it successful is a big accomplish. What a wonderful woman.

  • Pat Summit gave women's basketball it's popularity. Summit was also Tennessee basketball and will truly be missed by many. I am sad to see her go and I know that the asst coach who is stepping up will do just of good as a job as Pat did.

  • Well she was very successful. I think for all she did it was a very full career. It is sad though that she has too live with this disease. You have got to hand it to her for sticking in there for as long as she did.

  • i have never even heard of her. but its terrible for somthing like this to happen to someone like her after 38 years of coaching. she has left her mark on the history of baketball and i hope nobody forgets her.

  • It t bad she isn't going to be coaching anymore. She pretty made women's basketball what it is today. Her assistant coach is taking over though so the program should be in good hands.
  • This is really cool that she lead this team to so many wins and so many national titles. The fact that she is seeing that the team needs a new head coach and is moving on is a great move on her part. The fact that she was there for 38 years is awesome and i know she will go down in history as one of the best female women's college B-Ball coach. Hopefully her illness doesn't deteriate to much.

  • i wouldnt say it was an early retirement. she was an amazing coach and she will always be basketballs iconic figure. someone as talented as her will always do a good job even when she will have to deal with alzheimers.

  • She seems like an amazing coach but im not really into basketball all that much. I like soccer instead. Basketball just doesnt intrest me.

  • She seems like a really good coach. I dont really keep up in sports though so this really doesnt mean anything to me. I know a lot of people like to read and know this stuff but I dont really care.  Anything with sports just isnt me.

  • That shocked me when I read about that. She change basketball dramaticly. I saw on Sports Center that she got payed little to nothing then got payed big time. Sad to see her leave.
