Officials at the Parkland school are currently investigating allegations a teacher made comparing a pro-Second Amendment student, Kyle Kashuv, to Hitler.

The teacher was a history teacher by the name of Gregory Pittman. Gregory Pittman is an outspoken gun control advocate. The remarks were made after Kyle Kashuv posted a photo of him on a gun range with his father, a veteran of the Israel Defense Forces, on Twitter. The photo did lead an investigation in the school if Kyle Kashuv was dangerous, but they found the tweet not harmful at all.

The history teacher, Gregory Pittman, went back and forth with Kyle Kashuv on twitter saying it was wrong for Kyle to post a photo of a gun. Gregory also said that Kyle just did it for attention. A few days later after the twitter fight, in class Gregory Pittman went on a rant about Kyle as the student was at home. Gregory said that Kyle was dangerous and seemed like a "Hitler" type. When Kyler heard about the rant, he took to twitter and responded -

“I find it utterly vile that he’d call a Jew the next Hitler,” said Kashuv, whose family emigrated from Israel in the 1990s. “It’s also quite telling that he doesn’t know that Hitler took the people’s weaponry and I want more law-abiding citizens to have firearms."

Question 1: Did you find the photo/tweet to be dangerous or threatning?

I don't find the tweet dangerous at all. If anything, Kyle posted this photo correctly. He just wanted to share his first time on a gun range with his father and Kyle is pro-Second Amendment and wanted to express his opion.
Question 2: What do you think should be the punishment be for the teacher?

This teacher should be immediately fired. A teacher shouldn't bash on students about their beliefs and definitly calling a kid "Hitler" is inappropriate.

  • Well done overall! I do think you could have replied a few more times.

  • I think he had good intentions but people took it the wrong way. He is just shooting targets at a shooting range I don't think there is anything wrong with that but with the school shootings and the gun bans I think that it was a little much. I think that he had the right to tell people that the kid might be a little mental but he shouldn't have said "Hitler".

  • No I dont think the tweet was threatening at all or dangerous all he was doing was showing people that he now supports the second amendment and understands why its so important. Im not sure but they should make sure that it doesnt happen again

  • 1- I don't find this post offensive, and think it's great that he was being safe with this. And I'm in the group calling for gun regulation and stronger gun control. 2- In my opinion any teacher who has been treating students like this needs to be reprehended. And yes, he should lose his job.

  • No, he was letting people know about his experiences and what he was doing. He isn't trying to harm anybody and he wanted then why would he make everyone know.

  • No. he was just posting about his experience and his believes. thant isn't harmful to anyone.

I think that the teacher should be fired. calling someone the next hitler, who was a sick excuse of a person and a genocidal maniac, just because he supports the second ammendment. it is espescially stupid when you look at the fact that the person is a Jew. the people Hitler tried to wipe off the face of the earth. Calling anyone hitler is wrong and inappropriate period.

  • I think the teacher should be fired. There is no reason a grown adult should go and attack a student verbally. Going to the class and ranting about the student behind his back is childish and is very wrong. It is fine that he thinks this about guns, but when he verbally attacks and slanders the student, that is when your opinion becomes a threat.

    • I agree. The teacher should've kept his thoughts to himself. And also the fact that he talked about him behind his back to other student is just immature and unprofessional.

  • I did not think this photo was dangerous or threating. Every American has free speach and has the right to hold a gun he did not say anything towards anyone in this tweet. This tweet in my opinion is innocent and this teacher shouldnt be punished for trying something new.

    • I agree. I get how people can overreact over this topic as Kyle was from Parkland (the school that went through a shooting). But Kyle didn't call anyone out or say any threats. Kyle was just showing how he was learning how to handle firearms and firearm safetly.
